We'll be using this wiki as place to work together on our writing pieces, share our final drafts, and generally explore technology in English class.

Here is an overview of the technology we will be using this year:

  • Our first assignment:  Exploring the US and our National Parks
  • Digital Storytelling info
  • Movie Maker --- It's on all the computers in the building; check out some tutorials for how to use it.  And here's a peek at some Public Service Announcements last year's 7th graders made using Movie Maker.
  • This PBworks (which is a wiki) --- Check out this video and you'll see the amazing possibilities of this wiki (things like creating your own page, inserting videos, and sharing your work from any and all of your classes).  While we may not be using every feature of the wiki, the video is a fine reference to get more help if you need it.  Here's an example of another teacher who has used pbworks wiki with her class.
  • We'll also be using Google Earth to learn more about the settings of some of the stories we read.  Google Earth is on every computer in the building and is a free download from Google.
  • email --- If you have an email account and you need to communicate with me (send me a final draft or ask a question about an assignment), feel free to email me at kabodian_aa@elps.k12.mi.us
  • VoiceThread --- Really cool group conversations around photos; we can comment on photos and/or even start your own conversations around photos you like.  Check out how some students and teachers are using VoiceThread...and even more teachers are using Voicethread.
  • Mr. Kabodian's blog --- Feel free to read and/or comment on what Mr. Kabodian has to say.
  • If you want to use Skype, it is enabled on this page.

October 20 was the National Day of Writing.

Check out the National Gallery, as well as Mr. Kabodian's piece of writing.  Also, there was day-long webcast featuring authors, audio/visual presentations, highlights from local celebrations; the webcast may be archived for future viewing.
