  Best Basketball player EVER!!!!!:D

Welcome! To Anna's Wiki!

Here are my writing pieces!

Book of choice review: A Corner of the Universe

The book "A Corner of the Universe" is about a girl named Hattie who lives in a small town called Millertown.  Then in the summer of 1960 her Uncle Adam (who has mental problems) comes to town.  The whole story is told in a flashback. (Hattie watching the film of the summer of 1960 on her dad's movie projector)

Hattie lives in a boarding house with her mom-Dorothy, her dad-Jonathan, and the boarding house guest including; Miss.Hagerty, Mr.Penny, and Angel.

Down the street from The Owen Boarding House lives Hattie's Nana and Papa.  They are very rich.  Hattie says that there are small houses then all of a sudden a huge house. (Nana and Papa's)  Hattie hates going to Nana's cause she has to dress up.

The plot starts out with Adam coming to town.  The book leads up to when Fred Carnival's Funtime Carnival comes to town. Hattie, her mom, and dad go to the carnival on opening night.  Hattie goes to the carnival almost everyday after that.  Then she meets a girl named Leila at the carnival.  Leila tells Hattie how her whole family owns the carnival.  Leila and Hattie become best friends.

One day Adam throws Hattie a birthday party at the carnival.  Adam, Hattie, and Leila go on the ferris wheel and a horrific event happens.  After that horrific event another terrifying event happens.  Things solve out and everyone ends crying.

I really enjoyed this book.  A Corner of the Universe kept me entertained with exciting/interesting characters and a thrilling plot.  The plot was full of danger, friendship, and feeling concerned for the characters.  The plot was so thrilling that something thrilling happened in every chapter.

I would recommend this book because the whole book you're feeling for Hattie and you want to learn more about her mental Uncle Adam.  Adam's so sweet that you feel for him, you feel his pain.  You start to understand him until a tragic event happens.

Persuasive Essay: Figure Skating is the Best Sport

Figure skating is the best sport  there is! Figure skating is the best sport because

because figure skating is graceful, you get a great feeling of success and excitement, and has a high level of difficulty.  For these reasons I believe figure skating is the best sport.

First of all, figure skating is a very graceful and beautiful sport.  Unlike other sports like competitive cheerleading were  it isn't so graceful with cheesy smiles, people falling, and sharp, stiff arms.  Figure skating is graceful with beautiful arms, huge jumps , and beautiful spins.  For example, have you ever seen figure skating on TV, like the a Olympics?  Ever seen a skater and you start thinking  that's so beautiful, and you get that relaxed feeling.  Then have you ever cheerleader, and you get that scared, intense feeling.  For this reason figure skating is a graceful sport, figure skating is the best sport.

Equally as important figure skating has a feeling of success and excitement.  For example you get the feeling of success when you land  a jump for the first time.  You get the feeling of success and excitement when you do good and/or place well at a competition, but to have success comes fear.  To be successful there needs to be fear.  So ask yourself are you brave enough?  Figure skating is the best sport.

Finally figure skating has a very high difficulty.  When you watch figure skating on TV it may look easy but it's not.  Anyone can do competitive cheerleading but not everyone can do figure skating.  For example can you do a handstand ,(even on the wall) or a cartwheel, then you can do competitive cheer.  Can you balance on one foot on an 1/8cm blade of sharp metal?  No.  Can you move around the ice without clinging to the wall? No.  For these reasons figure skating is very difficult and figure skating is the best sport.

In conclusion I strongly believe that figure skating is the best sport because figure skating is graceful, has a feeling of success and excitement, and has a  high level of difficulty.  Figure skating isn't for everyone if you're not prepared to work hard and fall then this isn't the sport for you, but I strongly believe you should give figure skating a try.

     The Land of Dificles

On an ancient civilization in the year 3021, an old man was sitting in a lawn chair reading a newspaper.  When a couple visiting the area walked up in ah over the ancient civilization.

" Wow, look at this!  It's amazing!"  said the tourist lady in amazement.

" It is something." said the tourist man in boredom.

" Yes, it is something, but there is a story behind this mysterious village." said the old man looking up from this newspaper.

"There is?!?" said the tourist lady in shock.

" Yes there is, would you like to hear it?" asked the old man setting down his newspaper.

"Yes, absolutely!" said the tourist lady while  keeping eye contact and sitting down on a ledge of an old building.

" But we have to go." said the tourist man trying to get his wife to come.

" Go ahead, tell the story." said the tourist lady to the old man, ignoring her husband.

" Well then...." said the old man beginning his story.

The tourist man sat next to his wife and listened to the old man. The old man's story went like this....

                          *             *          *                  *            *          *          *          *          *

In the year of 2120 there was a land called Dificles.  In The Land of Dificles everyone was different, everyone had different hobbies, different personalities, and different ways of acting.  The king of this land was King Perfect.  King Perfect wanted everything to be completely perfect.

Under the rule of King Perfect, every nation that had war with The Land of Dificles, was defeated.  nation after nation, they defeated.  The Land of Dificles was the richest nation.  Everyone in The Land of Dificles was happy.  Everyone except the king.

King Perfect didn't like how everyone was different.  He hated how everybody did different things at different times.  King Perfect ordered his only trusted doctor to conduct an experiment to make everyone perfect and everyone be the same.  The doctor knew of his task and the trouble it would bring. The doctor tried to warn King Perfect but he didn't listen.

The doctor took months to find out how to make his operation work.  Finally he figured out a way.  The doctor wanted to tell King Perfect of his discover.  He ran from his tiny little work space, up 3,000 steps, leading up to the palace where the king lived.

" King, king, I have ...pant, pant...figured out how to ...pant, pant.."

King Perfect interrupted " Doctor spit it out.  What have you figured out?!?"

The doctor caught his breath and continued.  " I have figured out how to make everyone perfect!"

King Perfect was so excited.  Now his land would ne completely perfect.  Everyone would get along, his nation would be the best nation to ever see the light of day.  King Perfect was so excited wanted the operation to go under way ASAP.

King Perfect told the doctor " Start the operation immediately!  I want you to start the operation o the slaves and work your way up the hierarchy. The only ones to not give the operation to our you and I."

It took days, weeks even for the doctor to give everyone in The Land of Dificles the operation.  But only one person was left, one person! The doctor was about to awake his last patient from the operation when King Perfect rushed in.  The doctor could see the worrisome look on King Perfect's face.

" What, what's wrong?!?" the doctor sacredly asked.

" The, the, the citizens!  They are like zombies.  They're in a large mob, chasing me.  The citizens realized the imperfectness of humans and they're turning on me!" exclaimed King Perfect in horror.

The doctor was in shock. "I,I,I..."  the doctor got interrupted.  All of a sudden a mob of angry, internally perfect citizens, stormed in.  They were coming after King Perfect.

" You're not perfect, must kill!" shouted the perfect citizens

" No, no , this is not what I wanted." King Perfect said backing up in horror.

The doctor ran up in front of King Perfect and pushed them both into a secret hallway that was hidden behind where King Perfect was being cornered.  The door shut behind them.

" Run!" yelled the doctor "Run!"

" Where are we going?!?"  King Perfect exclaimed while picking up hid pace.

" Just follow me." The doctor explained.

The doctor and King Perfect ran and they ran.  Then all of a sudden King Perfect noticed light, a way out of this hidden tunnel.

" Light, I see light!" exclaimed King Perfect with excitement of freedom.

" Yup, light." calmly said the doctor.

The two meet the end of the tunnel.  They slowed their pace down till they were walking very slowly.  They stepped out of the tunnel and large tropical trees surrounded them.  Millions of different colored flowers and insects were everywhere.

"Where are we?" King Perfect asked curiously.

" The Forest of Colors." the doctor said astonished.

King Perfect and the doctor searched for days trying to find a way out of The Forest of Colors.  Eventually the two found a small ship dock importing goods to the land.  King Perfect asked a man carrying boxes if they could catch a ride on the ships to where ever they were going.  The man told him yes and told him which ship was going where.  King Perfect boarded the ship and the doctor decided to go on the ship coming a hour later.  The two split ways and never saw each other again.

                                                                                          *       *          *          *          *          *

"Wow that's amazing!" said the tourist lady.

" Thank you so much..." the tourist man said in confusion wanting to know the old man's name.

"Charlie, Charlie Perfect." the old man answered smiling.

Poems

Travis Trice

He's out there when no one else is.

You here on the court still practicing,

     after everyone has gone home.

He's the one who's jersey is soaked with sweat,

     while others have drops.

He's the one where just his effort could,

     light up a stadium.

He's the one who dazzles the crowd with threes,

like fireworks on Fourth of July.

     The crowd cheers his name,

a smile rises on his face.

     You all know his name.

The name becomes clearer and clearer,

the crowd shouts louder and louder.

Then the name comes to mind,

     T-R-I-C-E.

Success

     Stepping on the ice,

     blades striking the ice,

     sharp curvy edges,

the crispy sound of the ice reacting  in a calmly way with your blades.

     You're skating,

trying to remember where in the world your starting position is.

You look through the glass boards and see faces watching you,

     just you.

     You turn your head,

     to focus on your performance.

You are nervous as could be,

looking the judges straight in the eye.

     Billions of thoughts,

     run through your mind.

     The music begins.

     You start your program,

the fake smile on your face slowly turns into a relaxed expression.

     Jump after jump,

      landing after landing.

The program of your life is,

unfolding right in front of you.

The feeling of butterflies in your stomach is long gone.

     The feeling of,

     success,

     achievement.

Your emotions are pouring out in to this program.

This is the program you have been waiting for,

     your whole life.

     Your determination,

     tears,

     and pain

has built up to this moment.

     The perfect program.

Career Report: Marine Biologist

To me, I am a hard worker, great learner, and someone who loves the beach and water life.  This is why I want to be a marine biologist.  In our recent activity, we listed characteristics that we think we are or we feel are important.  My top 5 were competition/achievement, fun/pleasure, honesty, money, and freedom.

To become a marine biologist you must at least take 4 years of college or university.  But to actually do research on your own, work in a adiministry position, and work in environmental protection agencies, you must have a PhD.  If you know ahead of time that you want to be a marine biologist some courses you can take are biology, physics, chemistry, calculus and statistics, computers, and Latin.

When you are a marine biologist some everyday activities include studying population levels, migration patterns, and characteristics of marine animals and plants.  Marine biologist's also collect samples, analyze the makeup of marine plants, travel to remote places, and fieldwork.

A marine biologist works 8-10 hours a day or 40-50 hours a week.  with working so many hours a week pays between $35,000-$150,00 per year.  with a job paying so much there was only 230 marine biologist's in 2010 and scientists predict no change in 2020.

A marine biologist's environment changes depending on the field.  Most marine biologist's work in either offices or labs.  Also most marine biologist's use computers and electron microscopes and many marine biologist's record/write memos, reports, papers, and data.

Being a marine biologist relates to my life because I love the beach, ocean, and ocean life.  To work towards becoming a marine biologist I need to work hard, study, get good grades, and take the right classes to get me there.

The Olympic Games

     Introduction

The Olympic Games are the biggest athletic event in the world.  Placing in the Olympics means you're the best in the world.  The Olympics started in Ancient Greece and it still around today.  The Olympic Games have a rich history with many changes happening throughout the years and it still is a strong organization today.

     History

The Olympic Games originated from Olympia, in the western part of Peloponnese, Greece.  The Ancient Olympic Games took place in a hippo drome of Ancient Olympia's sacred arena.  According to Greek mythology the founder of the Ancient Olympic Games was the island of "Pelops." The founder of the modern day Olympics was Baron Pierre de Coubertin.  He was a French educator and historian. He founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC)  in 1894.  Coubertin was inspired by the Ancient Olympic Games, which lead him to founding the IOC ands the Olympics.

The Ancient Olympic Games was held from 776 BC to 393 AD.  The Ancient Olympics ended when Emperor Theodosius decreed in 393 AD that "pagan cults" should be banned.  It's incredible to know that from years ago, generations could inspire future generations.

     The First Ancient Olympic Games

The First Olympic Games were dedicated to the Olympian Gods, staged on ancient plains of Olympia.   From the beginning of the games in 776 BC, it continued on for about 10 more centuries till 393 AD.  The games were one day events until 684 BC where the games  were extended to 3 days. Then in the 5th century BC where the games were extended to 5 days.

The events in the Ancient Olympics were pentathlon, running, jumping, discus throw, wrestling, boxing, pankration, and equestrian.  The winners of those events received awards immediately after the competition.  Hellanodikis (Greek judge) announced winners name and the placed palm tree branches in their hands.  Spectators watching cheered and threw flowers to the winner.  Red ribbons were tied on the head and hands of the winner, as a sign of victory.

Official ceremonies began the last day of the games at the temple of Zeus.  Hellanodikis announced the winner's name. father's name, and homeland.  Hellanodikis the placed sacred olive tree wreath or Kotionos on the winner's head.  In the Ancient Olympic Games only free male citizens could participate, no matter what there social status was.  But married women were not allowed to participate or even watch the games.  Although unmarried women could attend the games.

The first Olympics inspired the modern day Olympics today.  The Ancient Olympic Game events, rules, and reasons for why the Olympics are around are still used and around today.

Changes from the Ancient Olympics to now

Many changes have happened from the Ancient Games to now.  For example problems for why there would be set backs or delays have changed.  In the Ancient Olympic Games they canceled the games if the event was suppose to be held but no one showed up with the correct supplies.  In today's Olympics the games may be set back or rarely canceled when there are problems with drugs, climate, and more.

Also structures and supplies have changed.  For example in the Ancient Games the swimming events were held in lakes and rivers, where now we have swimming pools.  In the Ancient Olympics they had hippo dromes that they're were held, now we have stadiums.

Many other things have changed also like the numbers in women competitors went from 22-5,000 in modern day Olympics out of 10,500 were women.  Numbers in events have also changed too.  In the Ancient Olympics there were 43 events and 9 sports.  In the modern day Olympics there are 328 events and 29 sports. (at the Beijing Olympics)  Another way the Olympics have changed is at the Ancient Olympics professionals could not compete and in the modern day Olympics professionals can compete.

The Olympics have changed a lot through out the years.  changing with peoples thought of mind, actions, and inventions and tools.  With more experience we had the more the Olympics developed.

     The Modern Day Olympics

The modern day Olympics hosts 200 and more countries, about 27,000 athletes competing in 28 sports.  Sports in the summer Olympics are archery, gymnastics, rowing, swimming and diving, tennis, and much more.  events in the winter games consists of alpine skiing, bobsledding, figure skating, snowboarding, and many more.

Athletes that finish as the top 3 finishers get a medal and a diploma.  The next 5 finishers only get a diplomas.  The athlete that finishes in first gets a "gold" medal which is actually silver coated with gold.  Placing in the Olympics is a huge deal.

In the opening ceremonies athletes from Greece come first in honor of the Ancient Olympic Games.  Other athletes follow in alphabetical order by country but in the spelling of the host country.  The modern day Olympics have shaped the sports world as we know it.

     Why are the Olympics Important?

Some may ask why are the Olympics still around?  Why are the Olympics important?  Well, organizers brought the Olympics back to encourage world peace and friendship.  Also to promote healthy sporting competition for the youth and to bring countries together.  The Olympics are intended to test skills of individuals and teams but not nations.  No nation actually "wins" the Olympics, only athletes.  Unofficial medals are totaled for the press and public.  Organizers also thought competing in front of hometown would bring spirits back.   Baron Pierre de Coubertin once said "The important thing in these Olympics is less to win than to take part.  the important thing in life is not the victory but the contest; the essential thing is not to have won but to have fought well."

     Conclusion

The Olympic Games are the building blocks of all sports events.  Without the Ancient Olympics we wouldn't have most of the sporting events today.  The ancient and modern day Olympics inspired the young athletes today.  The Olympic Games have a interesting history with slight adjustments with technology enhancing and still existing today.

My Perfect World

A perfect world is everything being just the way you want it to be.  Everybody doing what you want them to do.  And all of your favorite things.  My perfect world would consist of sports and going to sporting events for leisure and free time, summer and winter for our seasons, and going to school every other day.  My perfect world would be amazing.

In my perfect world for leisure and free time you would do sports and go to sporting events.  There would be no baseball, hockey, cricket, rugby, tennis, and racquetball.  Everyone could root for whatever sports teams they want  to root for.  This would be perfect because those are all the sports I hate.  This would be the perfect world for me because I love sports.  Sports are my life and I couldn't imagine my life without it.  My perfect world would be amazing.

In my perfect world for global relationships there would only be two seasons summer and winter.  there would only be summer and winter because those are my two favorite seasons.  Even though  my birthday is in the fall, I would move my birthday to the summer or winter.  There would also be no natural disasters.  There would be no natural disasters because then people would get injured or die and I hate and terrified of natural disasters.  This is another reason why my perfect world would be amazing.

Finally, in my perfect world for education and schools you would go to school every other day.  You would go to school for 1 year and then the next year no school, then the next year new grade and school the whole year.  There would be no summer break because of the years off.  There would also be no snow days but there would be holiday breaks.  For school you would go through 12th grade at least.  You may/can got to college but not required.  My perfect world would be amazing.

In my perfect world there would only be two seasons, you could play sports and go to sporting events, and you would go to school every other year.  My perfect world would be amazing.  What would yours be like?

Reflection

This year in English class, I learned how to cite my sources, take proper notes, and how to write a proper informational paper.  I felt like the whole writing assignment process was good and easy, but I did dislike the wiki.  I felt also that we didn't get enough time to edit our paper or partner edit. Also I felt like the class was pretty on your own.  I wish we had a book that when I am older could look back on.  It was also frustrating when people would steal your lock and the wiki was very slow.  My favorite part of the whole process was when we did the book project.  My group was very fun and interesting with a great book.  I liked working on the project and presenting it.
