Confessions of a Shopaholic

Does it make you feel better to buy things? Rebecca (Becky) Bloomwood in the book Confessions of a Shopaholic thinks so. Becky is a Shopaholic. She is in major debt because she spends all her money on things she truly doesn’t need. All the merchandise she buys has to be designer merchandise..

During this funny, intriguing, and colorful story Becky lives in London with her flatmate named Suze. Suze is a very creative person and is also into designer stuff too but her parents are wealthy and give her a “large allowance.”  Becky works as a journalist at a savings magazine called “Successful Savings” and doesn’t get paid enough to satisfy her shopping needs. Becky writes in the finance section even though she has NO idea what she is talking about. She just copies what she gets in her pamphlet from her financial meetings.
Becky starts getting notices saying that she owes money to banks. She read the first couple and ignored them. After a while she wouldn’t read them, she would just put them in the trash. One time she was reading her mail at work and she saw a dumpster outside her office, so she went outside and threw the Endwich bank notices and her Visa bill right into the dumpster without even reading them. She would even get phone calls from Derek Smeath, the assistant to the head of Endwich Bank, saying she owes money and wanted to schedule a meeting. She would write back and make excuses like her aunt died and she broke her leg.
Rebecca Bloomwood decided it was time to STOP! So she decided to go to the bookstore and a pick a book. She went straight to the Saving Section part of the store. She bought a book called “Controlling your Cash.” The book started off explaining what you should buy in the morning. Becky always went to Starbucks and got a venti double macciano and a triple chocolate chip muffin. If you have ever been to Starbucks it is almost the most expensive things there. “Controlling your Cash” says you should have a bagel or an apple from home and some homemade coffee. Becky was so addicted to her book. She did most everything it said to do even if it was hard. It was hard though to not go out and buy clothes. Sometimes she would get so frustrated she would go out and buy stuff. In the book, it also said she had to write everything down that she bought. Becky couldn’t take it any longer and gave up.
She gave her Dad a call and he said “Win the lottery or get an extra job.” Becky did both. Later that day she bought 9 lottery tickets and still didn’t win and then she got a job at Anne Sophie a really expensive clothing store. She got fired that day because she tried to steal a girl’s pants.
At her next financial meeting about pensions she met this guy named Luke Brandon. He was the 8th richest man in London with 25 million dollars. He was hosting the meeting. He asked Becky out to lunch at the mall. He said he loved her work. Becky was really into him. After lunch when Becky was about to leave Luke asked Becky if she could help him with something. He needed some help with buying luggage. She gave her honest opinion and Becky asked what the luggage was for. Luke said it was for his girlfriend Sacha. Becky was so angry she…
I loved this book so much. All of Becky’s hilarious comments wanted me to read more and more. It had a exciting and cautious hook.  The author, Sophie Kinsella, put a lot of jokes in just 312 pages. I am also very excited because this book is going to be a Major Motion Picture. Becky is being played by a very famous actress named Amy Adams.
I would recommend this book to people who just got paid or if you want a great laugh. It’s one of those books’s to choose if you’re a little blue or if you need a good book for the beach or a car ride. This book would be geared toward girls because boys don’t find shopping very interesting.

I like the way you hook the reader in the first sentence and your review is very focused and informative from there on out. Sounds like an amusing book!
