                                            Secret Garden

Main Character: Mary

Setting: Misselthwaite Manor, England

 

 

In the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, a young girl named Mary travels from India to England because a rare disease in India killed her parents. When she arrived in England she was going to live with her uncle Lord Archibald. When she walks in she is showed her room, which is where she will be staying most of the time. She decides to walk around and see what else the castle has in it.

 

When she does she goes in what used to be her aunts bedroom. Her aunt died in a tragic accident. When she went in her aunt’s bedroom she went over by the dresser and found a music box, which had a key in it. So Mary went outside to see what was outside. When she arrived in the gardens she tried to figure out if the key she found goes to a room or possibly one of the five gardens. When she finds the keys belongs to the garden, she figures out that this is the garden that her aunt died in.

 

 She decides to fix the garden, because the garden has been locked up for years. When Mary was working in the garden a little boy in a wheelchair came in. That little boy was Lord Archibald’s son, Colin. Colin is in a wheelchair because Lord Archibald had a crooked back so he thought the boy would grow up with a crooked back. But, Colin doesn’t have a crooked back he is perfectly fine.

 

So Mary also met a boy named Ben, Ben was Martha, the housemaid’s brother. Martha was babysitting him while she worked. So Mary, Colin, and Ben all worked together to clean the garden. The garden was finally finished and the kids were so happy. The kids were all inside when Lord Archibald arrived back at the manor the kids wanted to show the Lord what they had done to the garden.

 

When the Lord saw what they did he was so happy, he finally smiled for the first time in many years. Colin walked up to his dad and said, “I’m your son Colin and I don’t have a crooked back.”

 

Part II in book response:

 

I was to recommend a book I would definitely recommend The Secret Garden. The reason I would recommend this book is because I thought it was a very good book and it has a great adventure in it!

 

 

Part III in book response:

 

If I could changes places with a character, it would be: Mary. The reason I would want to change places with Mary is because she is the main character and in the book she is the main part in the adventure that happens in the book. So that’s why I would want to change places with Mary!

A couple facts about Lake Michigan are that it is the second largest Great Lake. Lake Michigan is bordered by 4 states, which are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Lake Michigan is joined to Lake Huron by the straits of Mackinaw and it is inseparable from it. The first Europeans to see Lake Michigan were the French traders and explorers in the 1600’s. Lake Michigan was formed by the last Great Ice Age. As glaciers advanced across what is now the Great Lakes Region
