        SUMMARY:

Have you ever had to swim in the ocean for a long period of time? Have you ever had an encounter with a baby whale? Have you ever had the feeling if you leave something bad will happen. Well in this book just that happens. A young teenage girl swims in the Pacific every morning, she has a workout route she does for training. She knows about everyone where she lives, the life guards, the people that work at the bait shops, and coast guards, and they all keep a close eye on her when she does her workout route at six or so in the morning.

But one day she decided to get up earlier so she can hang out with her friends later. So she started he route at about five in the morning or so. While she was out on the route it was still very dark out, but she still did the route anyway. While she was swimming underneath her she felt some sort of energy building up underneath her, some sort of odd build up. She started to get nervous and started getting her pace faster and faster. She wondered what would be underneath her. Was it a shark? Was it a submarine? What was it? When she got to her friend that owned the bait shop that was right on the water.

She greeted the owner that was fishing on the dock, while she climbed up the ladder. But he told her to get in fast. So she jumped back into the water. There wading in the water near her was a baby Blue Whale. If she would of stayed up on the dock the baby whale would have probably killed itself, since the water was very shallow under the dock the whale would have tried to get up onto shore, and the baby's lungs would have gave out and the whale would have been beached. So Lynne went on a long journey to go and find the baby Blue Whale's mother. The two go through many obstacles, but the biggest one they faced was to just trust one another. There were times when Grayson went underwater, Lynne couldn't see him anymore so she dived down with her googles on as far as she could go. No obstacle got into this tough girls way. Her ears started expanded like how scuba divers do, and she felt she didn't have time to clear so she just kept on going down.

While Lynne was out swimming in the Pacific Ocean with Grayson in search for his mother, the Bait Shop, and Coast Gaurds got some people to stand on Seal Beach Pier and look for the mother, and as the day went on many more people came and stood with binoculars searching for Grayson's mother. In the story many people's hearts were touched, and people got very emotional. To find out the ending read this great award winning book by Lynne Cox.

BOOK REVIEW:

I think Grayson by Lynn Cox was a great book, I loved how Lynn Cox went into such great detail in her book Grayson. I would definetly recomend this book to friend. Since it is based on a true story I think it is a great story for young adults to read and get a different prespective on life. When Lynn Cox was writing this book she did nit intend for kids or young adults to read it, it was actually intended for adults, but when Lynn Cox published this book she noticed that most of her fan mail she had been getting in the mail was actually mostly from kids. Manty grade school teachers have used this book in their classrooms. Kids love the meaning to this book and the way that the girl felt, how she couldn't leave the baby whale since its mother was not there with it. The suspense in this book was unbelievable, the book always had you hanging there waiting for more. I caught myself reading in class because I just couldn't put the book down One of the things I loved about this book was Lynne Cox's abundance of a variety in vocabulary she seemed to never use the same verb twice.

Here is a picture of Lynn Cox speaking at the MPS.

Pretty much ever since the book twilight has come out all of my friends have been bugging me to read it, but I just tell them all that it just doesn't seem like it would be something that I would enjoy. So over christmas vacation I started reading the book Twilight, but I caught myself never really wanting to actually read it. So I asked my friend that I met the year before in Florida. I asked her what she thought would be a good book for me to read. She sorta new a few things about me since I lived with  her for about three weeks at sea camp in the Florid Keys. So we went to the book store and bought it. I think Grayson is definetly one of the best books I have ever read, it really relates to me, and I wish I could have gone through the same experience.

RECOMMENDATION:

Yes, I would most likely recommend this book to a friend, the book had a great moral, and really connected with me. I think that anyone that were to read this book would have atleast one connection with Lynee's journey through the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. It also always kept my attention, it never seemed to get boring, and in between each and every chapter it left you hanging with an abundance of description in each sentence, paragraph, and chapter

.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Lynne Cox has set records all over the world for open-water swimming. She was named a Los Angeles Times Woman Of The Year, inducted into International swimming hall of fame, and honored with the lifetime achievement award from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is also the author of Swimming to Antarctica, which one an Alex Award. She now lives in Los Alamitos, California.

CHANGING PLACES:

If I could change places with anyone in the book it would be Lynne, I would pick her because of the great opportunity that she had. And even though this is in a book I learned that this book actually happened to her while she was training for one of her open water swims. But overall I think it would just be a once in a lifetime experience to have a whale encounter, especially when she was able to communicate with the whale, and the whale did not leave her in the whole process.

CHARACTER EVALUATION:

Out of the characters in the book I think that Lynne is most like me because of her interest and love in marine life. In  the book she never came out and said she loved the ocean but just with the actions she made showed her love and dedication. I think she is the most like me because I also love the ocean, and everything in it, I went to sea camp i the florida keys for three weeks to learn about marine life.

MEETING CHARACTERS:

If two characters from two different novels could meet I think I would pick Lynne from Grayson, and Emily from The Tale Of Emily Windsnap. I would pick these two characters because they share a lot of similar interest with one another, and they would get along great with one another, even though Emily is a mermaid.

NEWSPAPER INTERVIEW:

Reporter: What is the one thing you love most about the ocean?

Lynne: I couldn't pick just one thing, there's too many that I am in love with.

Reporter: Well then..........

Lynne: Yep, I couldn't just pick one.

Reporter: What is one thing you want to accomplish in your life?

Lynne: To be a famous marine biologist that accomplishes many things.

Reporter: Oh wow, wouldn't that be facinating, well thanks for letting me do this little interview.

Lynne: Yep, no problem, it was my honor.

OCEAN POEM:

Crystal blue water

rushing here and rushing there

abundance of life

Amazing job of sharing the story through words, a map, photos, and starfish! You've created such a thorough overview to the book...are you going to be a teacher someday? :)
