Friend or Worst Enemy

Inside Girl Some Kind of Wonderful

By: J. Minter

In the series Inside Girl I read the book Some Kind of Wonderful. It was very interesting. The main character Flan goes to her bungalow on a beautiful beach and she brings along her two best friends Judith and Meredith. I thought it was so funny when Flan sees her worst frenemy, Kennedy, who showed up at the airport after they had landed and was staying on the same beach where Flan, her family and her best friends were staying .The author gave great descriptions about what everyone was wearing I also loved when Flan tries to get back at Meredith for hanging out with Kennedy.

I didn't like how Flan's other best friend Judith left because of the exams she was cramming for. I thought she should have stayed. Also, Flan was a pretty bad friend when she barley even talked to Meredith about how she felt until the very end on the last day of their trip. When Flan decided to call her friend SBB for help she wrote a text message that said "social shipwreck on nevis.sos". I thought it was pretty weird how SBB came from the movie set just after the text from her shooting for a new movie just to help her out. Also in the end of the book Flan flies back to Manhattan and breaks up with her boyfriend and changes schools from Sky to Thoney, her old private school where she feels that she's meant to be.

At the end it all worked out because Flan and Meredith regain there friendships. Meredith writes a sorry letter out of chocolate chips on a pancake, and her and Meredith are friends again. Flan and Adam break up but promised each other they would still be good friends. I liked a lot of things but I also think there could have been some changes that would make it better.

The Sequel to Some Kind of Wonderful

Flan goes to Thoney and later during the year she realizes that she doesn't like all of the drama and all of the rumors that Kennedy is spreading about her. At Nevis, Flan had been able to control Kennedy but now at the Thoney school Kennedy practically ruled, Flan was nothing except for horrible rumors and a joke to laugh at. Flan stops and to her surprise Adam is in front of her. "Why are you here?" Flan asks Adam. Adam explains he really likes her and wants to get back to together. "I got transferred to Stuy."

"You stopped playing football, but that was your life!" Flan decides to give Adam another chance. Was that a good choice or was it another bad one?

Kennedy thought since the new year began and that her enemy was Flan she needed a plan to humiliate her in front of everyone. There was a play going on that night and Flan was in it. Kennedy and Willa, Kennedy's best friend, were also in the play and instead of dropping rose petals down onto Flan and her partner, they dropped gobs of blue paint. Kennedy and Willa got in big trouble and Flan wasn't happy about the blue paint because it ruined her clothes. Adam and Flan broke up 3 weeks after the play accident. They  decided to keep in touch. The next semester Adam went back to his old school for his football obsession he had at Stuy. Flan on the other hand stayed at Thoney and hung out with her friends. Kennedy didn't pull to many things on Flan after her parents grounded her for 3 weeks.

That 'sorry letter' out of chocolate chips sounded pretty interesting. Overall, nice job getting the main points of the book across.
