Metal and its subgenres

Intro

What is metal? That question is commonly asked and commonly stereotyped. Its just not about people screaming their heads off. Have you ever felt that metal lyrics actually mean something? Well I can answer those questions. Metal has a deep history and a clear mission, despite what people may think or say.

Metal

Metal is a heavy type of rock. This music developed in 1960’s and 1970’s. Why is was dark and new was it used the tritone or 5fth on the blues scale. Black Sabbath was the first to use the sound. Led Zeppelin and Deep purple were the second to use it. Some other bands that used this sound were Motorhead. Also called heavy metal

New Wave of British Heavy Metal

Nwobhm for short. This metal was influenced from heavy metal. It emerged from the 70’s and 80’s. Some of the bands are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, Motorhead, and Diamond head. This genre of metal music influenced a lot of other subgenres. In other words this when metal really started to branch out. It also made metal more popular.

Power Metal

Power metal combines thrash, speed, and heavy metal. The lyrics talk about dungeons and dragons stuff. The pioneering power metal band are Iron maiden, and Judas priest . Other power metal bands are Rainbow, and Dio--.

Nu-Metal

A type of metal that emerged in the late 90’s. Its influences were from new wave to heavy. The Nu-metal bands have a bit of a symphonic touch to it. But really they can play any type of metal as long as they’re new. They are only classified if they are new or not. Some Nu- metal bands are slipknot, lamb of god, breaking the wheel, disturbed, system of the down, and soulfly.

Death Metal

It is a extreme sub genre of metal. Like thrash it has a heavy sound with distorted guitars. But more morbid lyrics. It uses a growl called a death growl. Death metal bands take the lyrics way too far against many religions. Roadrunner records is a big record company in Death metal. Some bands are Morbid Angel, Sepultra, and Cannibal corpse.

Black Metal

Another extreme sub genre of metal music. There are two waves of black metal. They are called the first wave and the second wave. The fist wave to place in the 80’s and contained the bands Venom, Bathory, and Celtic frost. The second wave took place in the 90’s and is still going on now. It contains the bands Mayhem, Dark Thorne, and Immortal.

Conclusion

Metal is stereotyped because of Death metal and black metal. But people don’t look at the other subgenres. People need to know Black and Death isn’t everything about metal. It is a part, but not everything. Such as the other subgenres like new wave or power. They aren’t screaming their heads off. Metal can be powerful and not just screaming.
