Faerie Wars

Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan is an incredible book.  Probably one of best I have ever read, and I have read many great books.  Honestly, I would recommend this book to everyone on the face of the planet that can read, and to all the people who cannot read you should learn to read so that you can read this book.

Okay, this book has two basic parts.  One part is from the point of view of Henry, an average British boy with some serious problems at home, who just so happens to work for a grumpy old man named Mr. Fogarty.  Mr. Fogarty has a remarkable criminal record for a grumpy old man.

The other part is from the viewpoint of Pyrgus, a faerie prince, heir to the throne of the Purple Emperor, first in line for the crown.  Unfortunately, he might as well paste a target to his head and carry a sign saying, “If you want to overthrow the Purple Emperor come and attack me!” Not that his father is a bad emperor, it is just that almost half the population wants that power for themselves.

You see there are two kinds of faerie, Faeries of the Light a.k.a. “the good guys”, and the Faeries of the Night a.k.a. “the bad guys”.   Anyway, these two groups have been feuding for centuries, originally over a portal.  You see there are, in the Faerie Realm, portals through which faeries can travel to get to other realms such as the human or Analogue Realm.  This is exactly how Pyrgus meets Henry, however not intentionally.  Pyrgus is translated into the Analogue Realm for his own safety while his father made a very delicate deal with the Faeries of the Night.  However, the portal is tampered with and Pyrgus ends up in Mr. Fogarty’s backyard.  In addition, as it turns out the reason the portal is sabotaged is so know one would find out he’d been poisoned…

I am giving this book the most addictive book ever award.  As Eion Colfer said, ”I intended to read this book at my leisure.  I ended up missing two meals and a very important phone call.”

Sci Fi

Have you ever looked up at the stars and wondored if there was anyone out, and wondored if they would ever visit?  Well, you can stop wondoring.  We're here.

My name is Jenna Nancy and I'm not human.  I'm not sure when it started, maybe when I started to dream of stars, or maybe when I started climbing 50 foot redwoods like they had rungs built in.  And to be honest I don't know when it will stop.  I guess to know would I to know what I was doing on the side of that highway in Misoka.  Somedays I don't careBecause one of the best things to happen to me happened on that highway side.  And that was that I met my adoptive mom.  I don't remember most of it, that's just one more thing that I'm not sure of.  I remember Emma asked me lots of questions about where I lived, who I was, and what I was doing.   And each time she asked me something I responded with the same answer.  I don't know.  I answered this way because I didn't know. Still to this day I don't know.  Sometimes I'm not sure I want to...

Walk Two Moons and me:   On a Road Trip across the United States

In the novel, Sal and her grandparents stop at many national landmarks.  One that I learned about was

Old Faithful

.

A few things I learned about were (1.) It's not the biggest or most regular geyser at Yellowstone NP.

(2.) It's famous because it's eruptions are the most frequent.

(3.) Old Faithful is a cone-type geyser.

(4.) Old Faithful sputters for about 10 minutes befor erupting.

I found this photo of it at   geyserstudy.org/geysers/OLDFAITHFUL/pictures/Of_1950s.jpg

If I could travel anywhere in the United States, I would go to Washington DC.

I would travel there because of all the history that is there.

I found this photo of  the Washington Monument at american-architecture.info/USA/USA-Washington/Washington_Monument_Dusk_Jan_2006.jpg

That has to be the strongest book recommendation I've ever read..."learn to read so that you can read this book." That's wonderful. Sounds like a winner of a story.
