Poison Ivy

By: Amy Goldman Koss

This is a very captivating story that always keeps your attention and it is full of drama. It has some heart breaking descriptions of the drastic story. Each person has a little bit of a different way to tell the story. Ivy the person who is being bullied from the three mean girls (The Evil Three) who had bullied her verbally and physically. They had hit her and called her Poison Ivy. Then comes in the “alpha” Ann she is the leader of the evil three (Benita and Sophie). She likes the boy who wants no part in this “trial” his name is Marco. He had thought that is was in fact unfair for Ivy to be bullied. So he tells the story of how he is in the jury. This Trial starts when a teacher, Ms. Gold, notices that Ivy is being bullied and decides to hold a school trial in her classroom. She picks the lawyers to represent Ivy and The Evil Three. Then the lawyers pick the jury and then she picks the judge. Then you get the story from a quiet girl names Daria aka Einstein she is the lawyer for Ivy and is not fond of this girl and does not even try to win the case because she thinks that Ivy dose not care. Ivy is not the most likable person. She is out there and is never really “with” everyone else in the school. She just sits in class totally oblivious to the outside world, picking imaginary lint off her sweater. Most think that she is just putting on a brave face, but know one really knows. The end is not what you think it would be. It is an interesting book and it always keeps you involved.

My opinion about this book is that its end was very bad. It just ended so abruptly and fast. Koss never continued the relationships being built. Now I don’t know if there is a second book, if there is I don’t know how she would add on to this bland subject. I was shocked when I read the end and did not know if I had read it correctly. My favorite person in the story was a guy named Bryce. Bryce knew that Ann was quote “low-down and nasty rabid dogs. If they weren’t chicks, all three would’a had their teeth kicked down their throats by now” end quote. I personally did not like Daria she did not even try to win the case and she did not even care if this girl got beat up and bullied.  I would only read this book if you like boring books. This book never gets a point across.

This book has an interesting premise, or beginning conflict. I like the way the author takes a real situation (bullying) and comes up with a solution (jury of her peers). It's too bad the ending didn't make sense. Thanks for your honest review.
