Sci-fi Stories Are Each Unique!

Ever think everyone could be the same? Well that is the theme of both the movie “ Number 12 Looks Just Like You” And the short story “Harrison Bergeron.” However in this day in age people can only imagine what it would be like, so ideas are quite often similar, other times widely different. Only the authors can express their own fascination.

Both “Number 12 and “Bergeron” are set in a futuristic world and feature a main character willing to defy the society they live in and resist the influences of the dictator. In the case of Harrison the authority figure is the Handicapper General who overlooks everyone’s talents and selects a handicap to damper it. In the case of Marilyn from Number 12 the doctors pressure people to change their bodies to be more beautiful.

On the other hand well Harrison Bergeron doesn’t like handicaps forcing him to have the same physical capabilities as everyone else. Marilyn just doesn’t want to look like everyone else. Harrison B. and the people of his world have to live with sometimes-painful handicaps opposed to Marilyn whose transformation is painless.

As you can see “Harrison Bergeron” and “Number 12” and other sci-fi stories are often similar and different. At the same time I hope you can see why people should not all be the same.
