When The Sun Burnt Out

By: Izzy M

It was a Tuesday or at least Noah thought it was, for he had no idea when one day passed. The clearing he had reached was perfect for his camp. Noah had already unpacked the wagonload of items he had saved from the aliens.

Just one month before, Noah had been living with his family in Arkansas, celebrating the New Year 2025. When he woke up the next morning however the darkness blinded his eyes. The place where the sun should have been was black, like charcoal. The sun appeared burnt out. Nevertheless something else was looming over him.  Noah picked up his flashlight and gazed around the room in horror. The Walls were covered in an oozing, red substance and as he took a trip around the house to his parent’s bedroom, his brother’s bedroom and his sister’s bedroom, skeletons lay scattered everywhere about the rooms. Noah a boy of thirteen he correctly identified four skulls the sizes of both his parents and siblings and finally his heart became numb as he realized the true identity of the liquid running down the walls.

But what could accomplish so much death and destruction? Aliens! The only answer. The evidence lay on the floor, puddles of squishy green slime. Noah’s thoughts skipped to his friends Julia and Mike. Had they survived? Could they help him save the planet from blood sucking monsters? Noah instantly ran out the front door to his girlfriend Julia’s house.

Yes, those days were far from over a month now and they still hadn’t made it to the corrupt landing space of alien vortex. It was just Noah and Julia  (in their ignorance Mike had died). Noah had never stared death in the face until the aliens came. However when Mike died he was scared to a point of depressing lows.

Michael Webster was twelve, best football player their school had ever known and still maintained an a+ average. Everyone wanted to be him; his dad was a wealthy investor in the stock market and his mother a well-known talk show host. Everything was great for him until a month ago. When the sun burnt out.

Just a month ago Mike woke up. An ugly green mole standing over him, no eyes, just blood red slits. Suddenly the head turned into a thousand knife sharp teeth blazing toward him, furiously tearing his shoulder launching into the very muscles and sucking the blood from within him. He let out a howl and the beast turned blue with fear. It cowered through the window. The pain was like a vine paralyzing his very soul. Blood pressed up against his face so he could hardly breath. Mikes Body went numb with fear stopping his heart; cold filled his chest a last thought, “ So this is what it is like to die.”

Noah rushed in clutching his dead friend. Noah wasn’t feeling anything though soon enough he would lose his girl friend. It was truly sad to think about what the aliens were doing. Sometimes Noah would wonder if they even had emotions.

Julia was a very strong and beautiful girl who had been going out with Noah for several years. Her death was quick and painless, on the other hand brutal to Noah’s weakening heart. It would not have happened if aliens hadn’t attacked earth. When the sun burnt out.

Noah and Julia were sitting in their camp just a few weeks after the New Year trying to keep warm without a fire. Trying to not to draw attention to themselves through light. An alien however only 2 feet tall and as skinny as a pole still snuck up behind them.

Hungry for blood it pulled out it’s knife like hands. It cleanly chopped off Julia’s head. Blood gushed from her eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Noah pulled out his pistol and shot the monster, but it was to late to save Julia. The last woman on earth was dead. Or so Noah thought.

The human race had no chance and Noah knew it he could not rebuild it and there was no safe life without it. And seeking out revenge had no meaning. That night Noah went to bed with his pistol strapped to his hip.

Noah didn’t wake up the next morning or the morning after that. He died of an airborne disease known as abcolurcolisbis. It ate his brain from the inside out. The disease passed through his mouth every time he opened it. It traveled through his blood stream and without knowing of it was pumped strait into his brain.

Noah did not have a chance to get vengeance upon his family and friends. However, his family and every other being except for himself, Mike and Julia everyone else wasn’t actually dead. The bones of their being were sucked out of them but the heart brain and other important organs stayed running therefore they were still alive.

The blood of the human gave each alien a step up in evolution. Once they were at this higher stage they could not live in their bodies and put themselves in the living human bodies. Once in the skin of the human they boiled their extra systems off their bodies and became the humans.

The aliens were no longer alien. They lived as humans and survived as people. Till the next aliens come. When the next sun burns out. Life always existed in this manor; life never came after or before death but during pain and suffering.

This isn’t really earth, or at least it doesn’t have to be.
