MY WALK TWO MOONS ESSAY:

Walk Two Moons Essay!

By: Sariah Martineau

Sal describes the trip with her grandparents as a gift… a gift she would never forget. Sal is an emotional child with many predicaments in her life. One of these predicaments is her mother. Her mother disappeared a while back and died on a bus trip to see her cousin. Sal and her grandparents go on a long car ride to her mothers’ grave in Lewis-ton, Idaho.

Sal and her grandparents start their trip by zooming off  to the Ill-ah-no-way border line! During this time, grams asks her to "spin them a yarn," and she gets the chance to spill out her life’s story to her ever listening grandparents. When she does this, she starts to realize that underneath her story, the one of her mothers is hidden.

Near the end of the trip, gram has a stroke and grams gives her the keys to the car. He knew what she would do. She went to her mothers grave. When a police drives her back to the hospital, she finds a note left for her, saying that grams had died and what hotel gramps was staying in. It was about this time that she realized that the trip was a gift from them to her. The trip let her get to know Phoebe better, understand Ben, and most of all, her mother and grandparents.

This was a huge gift to Sal, and I don't think she will ever forget it.

MY PERSUASIVE ESSAY:

REACH Persuasive Essay

By: Sariah Martineau

Students at MacDonald Middle School should have REACH. REACH is a period of time during the school day to catch up on late homework assignments and such. REACH is a time to get help from students or teachers that you wouldn’t get otherwise. It also gives you time to do homework so you are not overwhelmed by schoolwork at home.  It is also a time to cool down and get organized. Students SHOULD be allowed to have a period of REACH time every day to catch up with late work, and to get help from others.

REACH is a time to get help from teachers, students, or computers. During REACH, you can get help that you wouldn’t otherwise get at home. If you get help, then your grades will rise and you will actually understand the assignments. If you understand, then you won't end up behind the class and getting stressed because you don’t know what to do. We should have a time to get help during the school day that we wouldn’t otherwise.

REACH gives you time to work on homework during the day so you have time to do after school activities and not be overwhelmed by stacks of homework. During the day, your homework stacks up, and once you get home, you don't have time to do it all. You have afterschool activities, so when you get back to school, you grade plummets. REACH gives you time to reduce your pile of work at school before getting more, so that you have less to deal with at home. REACH should be allowed for that reason.

REACH allows you time to manage your time at school, like saying: "this will be the time to do this, that will be the time..." It allows you to organize your day and gather your thoughts. REACH will help with organization both with your locker, and with your mind. We all know that middle schoolers lockers can get VERY messy of the time of a year. REACH will help students organize their day and make it easier to get work done.

Students have the right to have at least a small period of REACH during the school day to get help, get homework done, and to organize your thoughts. We need students to be able to get help when they need it, be able to get homework done, and to get organized. Organization is very important as a middle schooler because of all the other things they have to do during the day. We should reintroduce REACH to our students TODAY!

FIRST SEMESTER REFLECTION:

I think that the writing assignments are hard things to reflect on, but anyways, what have I got to lose? First, the topics. I think its okay, but we should have more chances to actually pick the topics for ourselves, and not have you give us just two or three options. for example, the walk two moons essay. If you make us choose from 2-4 options, people feel that they aren't being challenged enough. In walk two moons, I felt that I couldn't concentrate well, because the topic had already been chosen for me. I think that you should give examples, but let other kids pick the topic. For the length of time to write... well, I think it was good, but to get people to actually write, you need to go for a shorter amount of time, and if they don't finish, lengthen it. I liked the amount of feedback. I think we need more time working together. as the saying goes, two minds are better than one, but three is amazing. using the wiki and google is easy in my opinion. EASYYYYYYYY! I don't really like writing rough drafts. My writing type is JUST DO IT!!!! I like to dive in heads first.

REFLECTION SEQUEL:

-This year I learned about the parts of an essay. I would like to say im organized, but I named my locker organized chaos. It's really messy. I didntreally have a lot of trouble this year, so thanks.

One With the Stars

The bear sits,

eyes wide

catching the reflection

of the sun,

a glimmering orb,

as it sinks below

the horizon.

He stands,

His large form

Is framed by the

last light,

leaking from the sky.

With a small

dip of his head,

he turns and bows

to the moon, rising

in the East

with the stars.

The stars are his

guide

in the night,

The constellations

whisper to him

the way.

The bear roams

with the stars

as they trudge

on their path

across the sky.

He is like the

traveler on the

dusty road,

leaving footprints

in his wake.

He leaves his

footprints,

for those who

are lost,

like himself

for his guide

is the stars.

He sleeps in a cove

of soft ferns, and moss,

and when he wakes,

he is landed

among the stars.

The whispers of

the constellations

grow louder

in the night

'till he sees

them in true

form,

the lion,

ready to pounce,

the fish,

leaping in the sky.

He is one with

the night sky,

the black void,

the moon,

and the stars.

He travels on his way,

shining brightly

as The Great Bear,

and as he walks on

his dusty road,

his footprints

ARE the stars.

this is my Famous Person Essay:

Charles Darwin, Life and Story

"A man's friendships are one of the best measures of his worth." -Charles Darwin. This quote is from one of the better times in his life. Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and geologist.  Charles Darwin was famous because he found and proved a theory that he first began with a love for nature and science. He traveled seas, went many places to expand his theory.

Charles Darwin was born February 12 in 1809. He was born in ShrewsburyEngland. His parents names were Robert and Susannah Darwin. They had the jobs of doctor and financer. Darwin was the fifth of six children in a rich family that lived in a mansion. He even had portraits of himself painted by artists from when he was seven! As an 8-year-old, Charles Darwin had a taste for natural history. His father egged him towards being a doctor, but Darwin disliked the sight of blood and surgery.

At age 16, Charles was enrolled at Edinburgh University to study natural history, and two years later he became a student at Christ's College in Cambridge so that he could study to become a minister of some sort.

Charles Darwin may be known as the father of evolution, but there were many people that influenced him. Jean Baptiste Lamarck was a Botanist and Zoologist who was one of the first to propose that humans evolved from a  lower species through adaptations over time. Darwin had always been interested in natural history, so I guess you could say that he started his own career. Darwin entered his career at about the age of twenty, and he was one of the first people to actually come up with the theory of evolution. Evolution is:

the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth. The gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form.

Darwin was an exceptionally talented student. He always participated in classes and, even though his grades weren't that good, he always got an A on his tests. He had many setbacks along the way of doing his job, and some of them almost made him give up. One of his setbacks was that almost nobody believed him. They discriminated against his theory, and they put much pressure on him.

He became famous, but not when he was alive, because he was known as the father of evolution. Though he had many other people with him, he was known for the biggest discovery with them. He was the one who discovered Evolution. He MADE evolution... well, not ACTUALLY made, but, you know...  Darwin had a journal that he always carried around with him in which he recorded all of his findings. It was later found and published. His Idea spread and now, even I am affected by it. Many people still deny it, and turn away from the possibility. In Darwin's journal He had all of his discoveries, like similarities between species and which specie is related to which. He had traveled to many places of the timeline of many years. He traveled to the Galapagos islands, he traveled many places. Some other places he went to are Chile, and some places in south america.

He left on the HMS Beagle in the year of 1831, and arrived in the Galapagos in 1835. He traveled in between these years. He returned home in the year of: 1836. He was gone for 5 years total.

The world understands our history of evolution. Evolution is our past, and it may help us in the future. The field of natural history has now broadened because of him.

Charles died because of a heart disease. His date of death was in the year of 1882, in Westminster abbeyLondon.

Charles Darwin is a funny, hardworking, perceptive man. He never gave up on his goals, and he was a great explorer. He was also very loyal to his family and friends. He is a good person to look up to because he never gave up on his goals. If you persist, your goals actually might happen. From when he was born to when he died... He had a great job, a good family, and a pretty tombstone.

Career Essay

A persons career can depend on who they are and what they value. Some of my values are achievements, cooperation, fun/pleasure, learning, and helping/service. Honestly, I think I can work on some of them a bit. I help at a nature center near my home, called Fenner. I am part of a program called YLP (Youth Leadership Program). We volunteer to help Fenner, and recently had a ribbon cutting for one of our biggest projects. As for achievements, well, I am in track and field. I run every day except the weekends and Friday. It is tough and exhausting, but I manage. I think of myself as a imaginative person, and a good artist. My mood is strange, and it can go from happy to annoyed very quickly if things don’t work right. I think that might work well for my career.

As for the career, I have decided on Producer and Director. It is a hard job with many challenges, and it has long hours lots of stress, but underneath it all, there is something amazing. Producers and directors have a whole stock full of jobs, and some of them are:

  1. Select scripts/topics for a film, show, commercial, or play.

  2. Audition and select cast members and film/stage crew.

  3. Oversee production process.

  4. Keep project on schedule and within the budget.

  5. and finally promote finished works or productions.

The working conditions are tough, and the hours are long and irregular, sometimes even 40 hours a week. You would be under a lot of pressure and stress, but I can handle that kind of thing. You are often on a stage or office, and you have heated discussions, and things are pretty intense. for employments, about 122,600 jobs as producer and director are held. to become a producer or director, you usually need a bachelors degree. Many people study film or cinema at colleges. you can get a range of 30,000 to 187,000 dollars per year. I have often worked on stop motion animations at home, and I consider myself pretty good at it. For this, you need patience, and when it comes to it, I have a lot. You need to make sure that the conditions are right to take all of the photos, and you need to make sure that the animations are running smoothly.

Once I get older I think my likes and dislikes about the job will remain the same, and they are this:

Likes: Creative work environment; Talent; meeting new people; discussing problems; et cetra

Dislikes: long work hours being stuck in a studio.

     to be continued....
