Page history last edited by soluna 7 years, 12 months ago

Hello. As you can see I am Soluna and this is my wiki page. These are some fun facts and things about me that I think you would like to know.

My favorite color is blue and I enjoy playing sports. My favorite sport is volleyball. I also enjoy playing soccer, lacrosse, tennis and I love to swim. I always love to listen to a good song when I study or do anything productive. I sing very often at home as well but I have really bad stage fright. I have never played an instrument but hope to learn to play the violin. I have learned to play the piano and guitar but kind of forgot due to sports making me busy. This is my first year at MacDonald Middle School. All my life up until now I have been in the Lansing School District. This is my 5th school I have been to and I am really enjoying everyone welcoming me to this school and I am also enjoying this year so far.  Read more of my wiki for book reviews and assignments.

Misty Copeland

How  many  people  do  you  know  dance  as  a  principal  dancer  at the

American  Ballet  Theater  that  is  an  african  american  women?  Not  many  people  can say  that  is  their  title  that  people  know  them  by.  Luckily  Misty  Copeland  can  say  that  about  herself  and  she  is  the  only  one.  Misty  Copeland  is  a  dancer  for  the  American  Ballet  Theater  and  was  just  promoted  not  to  long  ago  to  a  principal  dancer  for  the  last  75  years.  This  essay  is  about  Misty  Copeland  and  her  life  up  until  now.

It  all  started  on  September  10th  1982  in  Kansas  City,  Missouri  when  this  little  girl  was  born  ready   for  an  adventure  that  is  soon  to  come.  Misty’s  parents  are Doug  Copeland  and  Sylvia  DelaCerna.  She  has  5  siblings  total,  2  sisters  and  3  brothers.  Their  names  are  Lindsey  Monique  Brown  (sister)  Erica  Stephanie  Copeland  (sister)  Christopher Ryan Copeland  (brother)  Douglas  Copeland  jr. (brother)  and  lastly  Cameron Koa DelaCerna  (brother).  She  grew  up  with  a  single  mom  and  siblings  always  on  the  move.  Even  though  she  was  born  in  Kansas  City  but  they  soon  moved  to  San  Pedro.

When  she  was  younger  her  mother  and  ballet  teacher,  along  with  some  other  teachers,  got  into  a  custody  battle  for  her  care.  The  decision  came  down  to  Misty  going  back  to  San  Pedro  high  school to  finish  school  with  her  mother  instead  of  going  back  with  her  dance  teachers.  Even  though  she  was  with  her  mother  and  siblings  she  was  able  to  study  dance  some  more  at  the Lauridsen  Ballet  center  in  Torrance.  It  wasn’t  the  same  as  the  dance  school  she  was  at  before  but  it still  was  good  enough  for  her  to  practice  dance.

As  she  got  older  she  started  competing  in  some  competitions  and  won  awards  and  scholarships  for dance  in  many  states.  At  the  age  of  15,  she  won  the  first  prize  in  the  Los  Angeles  Music  Center  Spotlight  Awards  and  won  a  full  scholarship  to  a  dance  program  at  San  Francisco  Ballet.  Copeland  also  was  given  the  opportunity  to  study  with  master  teachers  and  trainers.  The  award  that  she  was  given  for  this  opportunity  was  called  the  Leonore  Annenberg  Fellowship  in  arts.  In  2013  the  Boys  and  Girls  Club  of  America  named  her  the  National  Youth  of  the  year  Ambassador.  In  2014  she  was  also  named  President's  Council  on  Fitness,  Sports,  and  Nutrition  and in  the  same  year  she  was  an  honoree  for  the  Dance  Magazine  Awards.

She  has  3  endorsements  at  the  time.  Under  Armour,  Seiko,  and  the  Boys  and  Girls  club.  Along  with  Stephen  Curry , she  makes  commercials  for  Under  Armour  and  does  photo  shoots  for  them  as  she  wears  their  clothing.  Seiko is  a  watch  company  that  she  does  photo  shoots  for  as  well.  The  Boys  and  Girls  Club  was  a place  where  she  first  started  dancing  and  has  been  a  part  of  their  community  so  she  helps  out  with  them.  The  reason  many  people  would  ask   Misty  to  be  the  sponsor  I  think  would  be  because  she  is  the  only  African  American  principal  ballet  dancer  that  makes  such  an  impact  on  everyone  including  people  that  are  not  ballet  dancers.

Misty  Copeland  wasn’t  like a  typical  ballerina  that  ate  a  certain  diet  of  foods  that  you  can  and  cannot  eat.  Most  ballerinas  eat  certain  foods  to  keep  them  fit  and  in  shape.  They  try  to  stay  very  skinny  so  it’s  easier  to  be  flexible  in  in  order  to  be  able  to  do  a  bunch  of  dance  moves.  They  also  have  to  have  a  lot  of  strength for  their  pointe  shoes,  which  is  why  she  is  so  incredible,  She  is  strong  but  doesn’t  have  the  typical  body  type  of  the  ballerinas  most  people  think  of.  She  said  growing  up  that  she  would  eat  like  any  other  person  with   the  typical  McDonald's and  Burger King  and  other  fast  food  restaurants.
