Halle's Crossed Book Review

Crossed by: Ally Condie

This is my 7th grade English Book review.

"I wonder where Ky is, what is happening to him, if he managed to hang onto the scrap of green silk I gave him before I left."

In this thrilling sequel to Matched by Ally Condie, Cassia and her love Ky are parted, and are desperately trying to find each other.

In the beginning of the book, Ky is at a camp where the boys have to handle attacks from the Enemy, and are supposed to pose as people still living in the Society happily.

Cassia is at a place where a bunch of girls farm and study. But when Indie, Cassia's friend is going to be taken where Ky is in the Outer Provinces, Cassia hops onto the air craft with Indie with hopes that she will find Ky there. Ky's goal is to escape the camp with his friends Eli and Vick. So Ky makes a run for the Carving or the canyons. When Cassia arrives to the camp where Ky is supposed to be, he isn't there. So Cassia and Indie are led into the carving by another boy who says he knows where Ky is.

The journey continues through the carving where Cassia is trying to get to Ky with Ky trying to get to Cassia, but little does he know she is right behind him. Throughout the canyons there are many discoveries about the rebellion and many questions to be asked.

There are three groups in this book. Each group of people has a different idea on the way things should be run. The Society is one of them. They believe that they should be in control of who people love, what people eat, where people work, and when they die. Another group is the Rising. In the Rising, they are against the Society and believe in more freedom and lots of people in the Society are trying to get to the Rising. Lastly there is the Enemy who is against the the Society's doings and keeps attacking the Society.

This book was banned in one location, however the source did not say why. I think that if this book was banned it would be for violence, because there is a lot of death from different things and lots of people were intentionally killed. I don't think this book should be banned, because it is an excellent piece of writing, but I do think that you should not read this book at a young age.

I would strongly recommend this book to any readers who enjoy Science Fiction, action, romance, and lots of exciting moments. I liked this book for the suspense that the book provided, and how the book hooked me very fast and so I wanted to keep reading. If you enjoyed the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, which is another good science fiction read, then I think you would like Crossed and the previous book Matched, and also the book after Crossed: Reached.

One thing that I disliked about this book would be how Cassia's chase to find Ky was a little long and could have been shortened a bit. But even with that, overall it was an outstanding book and I would read it again.
