Ender's Game

Can you imagine the fate of the entire human race resting on your shoulders? The fate of all your loved ones depending on whether or not you can defeat an alien army a thousand times bigger than yours. You may not be able to, but Ender Wiggin can. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a must read for all sci-fi lovers. This novel is about a boy named Andrew "Ender" Wiggin. He is accompanied in his adventures by Alai, Bean, Petra, Colonel Dap and many other students and teachers at Battle School. His loving sister Valentine is also important, along with Ender's extremely violent brother Peter, his mom, and his dad.

In the beginning of the book, Ender was accepted into an elite program for potential military geniuses. He was the best in his class and was the first one promoted. Ender was promoted to Salamander Army. After a few weeks, Ender was traded into Rat Army. After being in the top standings for weeks, Ender becomes the youngest commander at Battle School. His army, the Dragon Army, hadn't lost a battle. So Colonel Graph decided to give Ender a little more of a challenge, he gave Dragon Army battles everyday, then twice a day, then they had to fight two armies at once. That's when Ender finally cracked.

There were two conflicts in my story. The first one was that he was under so much pressure because he was supposed to save the world. All of the pressure really put a strain on his mental and physical health and he was not sure how much longer he could take it. The second problem was that there was an alien army coming to attack Earth. Everyone wanted Ender to destroy the buggers. But he is afraid to do it, he will become like this violent brother.

In the end, he becomes the great commander Earth needs. But, Ender wasn't sure it was worth the price he paid.

I really enjoyed this book because it really gave insight to how Ender was feeling and the ideas were different then many other sci-fi books. The originality and details, like how the game Ender played on his computer looked and worked, made this an overall amazing book. I recommend that this book isn't read until the age of 12, because there is a lot of violence and some of the conflicts would be hard to understand for small children.
