A  million ways home

                    By: Diana Dorisi Winged

A million ways home, written by the one and only Dianna Dorisi Winget (if you would like to you can click her name and it will take you to her website if you want to read more about her) is a work of art. It may not have been banned or challenged but that doesn't  mean that is wasn't an amazing story.

To start with, the main character Poppy's (protagonist) world is turned upside down when her only living relative, her grandma Beth becomes very sick to the point where she needs to be under intense hospital care. Then she is sent to a children's center where kids go when their custody is to be decided. Now she has to share a little room with a mean roommate named Sidney who steals her stuff and is rude. I think that in this case the world is the antagonist because of all the challenges that it throws into her path that she has to deal with, like the fact that her parents were killed in a terrorist bombing in Africa before she was even one year old!

Some other important characters that you should know about are Ray, Lizzie, and of course, Marti. Let's start with Ray. Ray is the police officer in charge of keeping poppy safe from the criminal while they look for him. Lizzie is what you could call a trouble maker who needs to do community service as a punishment for her mini crime. Her community service includes helping out at Marti's house and working at the animal shelter to clean the pens and exercise the dogs. Finally Marti. Marti is the everyone's  grandma type of lady who loves kids, dogs, and life itself. She quickly welcomes Poppy into her home and quickly becomes the second grandma she never had.

The setting takes place in modern day time and it doesn't tell you in the book a town name but i imagine it something small and simple like spring brook or red view. As the story changes so does the setting. The most commonly used setting in the book though is the house of Ray and his mother Marti. After their duplex the next most common setting is the animal shelter. The animal shelter is where gunner the beautiful German Shepard lives, and where Lizzie's mom works.

Some reasons as to why i truly enjoyed the book are that the challenges that she has to face even though it was realistic fiction still inspires you to want to make a difference in the world that will forever be remembered. I also liked how the author created gunner to be in a similar position to Poppy by his future being unknown as to where he would go and what he would be. I recommend this book to people everywhere because of its amazing story.
