"Dorothy Must Die" by: Danielle Paige

Review by: Grace Burgess

"There's a new girl from Kansas in Oz, and she has a mission: REMOVE the Tin Woodman's heart, STEAL the Scarecrow's brain, TAKE the Lion's courage, and then- DOROTHY MUST DIE."

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel to a place you've always wanted to go, and getting there and realizing that surviving just might not be an option? That is exactly how Amy Grumm felt when she landed in Oz and quickly realized that it was nothing like what she'd ever imagined. Amy Grumm is a lonely, depressed, sad teenage girl who's life just doesn't seem to be going quite right. Her mom is irresponsible and immature making bad decisions and doesn't really care about Amy as much as she should. Amy's dad left her when she was little so she was pretty much taking care of herself.

One night when she was home alone, a tornado hit their small hometown in Kansas and swept her up with her pet rat Star and carried her away to the magical land of Oz which, as it turns out, was nothing like what she had expected. Oz was a magical place, but not the typical fairy tale story book kind of magical place. The good was evil, and the evil was good. Dorothy wasn't good like the movies had portrayed. Dorothy was the evil dictator of Oz who was using the munchkins and the monkeys as her evil slaves to suck the magic out of the land to make herself more powerful. The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked (which was comprised of bad witches turned good) joined together to kill Dorothy because an Oz without magic was no Oz at all. Amy was recruited to join the Order of the Wicked and carry out the mission to kill Dorothy and bring Oz back to life. The story is about all of the people Amy met, and the battles she fought on her wild and crazy journey to the Emerald City to take down Dorothy.

I would strongly recommend this book because it is full of action and adventure. Although the book uses some foul language, it was hard to put down and was very entertaining. It was also quite long and took some effort to finish in time. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Thanks for reading!
