Point Blank Book Review

By: Anish Subedi

A school with up to 15,000 dollar fees per term, a lunatic as its headmaster, what kind of school is this you may ask? It's not just any school, it's Point Blanc. The school for juvenile delinquents who come from very rich families and backgrounds, to try and make kids become more responsible and mature like their parents. Then there's Alex Rider, the 14 year old boy from Chelsea, London, to London he is an average school boy but to M16 British Intelligence, he is their secret weapon.

This thrilling book, the 2nd in its series, created by Anthony Horowitz, tells the adventurous tale about the life of Alex Rider. He is a 14 year old boy working for M16 British Intelligence [The U.K.'s version of the CIA], as he tries to find a link to the killings of Michael J Roscoe the multimillionaire electronics king, and Victor Ivanov the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service and the 2nd or 3rd most powerful man in Russia. Both of their sons attended Point Blanc which is located on the Bernese Alps in between France & Switzerland. They were having trouble with their sons, until their very mysterious deaths.

It is Alex's job to find the connection between the killings and the school, and also to figure out how the school can turn juvenile delinquents into mature teenagers. Alex has to then play a double role. He is now the son of Sir David Friend, the supermarket, because the school only excepts students from rich and famous backgrounds. Alex goes to the school and finds many interesting things including a room that looks exactly like his.

Overall I would rate this book a 7 out of 10  because I felt that it was a very interesting and adventurous but it eas also misleading at times such as when Alex goes chasing after the drug dealer after school for no particular reason. I would recommend this book for ages 8 and up, because it isn't that hard of a read and it talks a whole lot about gadgets and and explosions. Also during the book at various periods it says," Alex swore under his breath", which doesn't seem appropriate for all ages. The author Anthony Horowitz has been nominated for many awards including the U.K's best seller 3 years in a row. All the credit in my opinion should go to the author, Anthony Horowitz.
