Henry Ford

By: Maher Fawaz

Have you ever heard of Henry Ford? You might have heard of the Ford Motor Company, right? Well, Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. Keep reading, and you’ll know about Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company.

Henry Ford was born on July 30th, 1863 to William and Mary Ford in Greenfield Township, Michigan on a farm. He was the oldest among his four siblings. At age 15, his father gave him a watch then he disassembled and reassembled it, earning the title, “Watch Repairman.” In 1876, Ford’s mother died. He then said, “I never had any particular love for the farm—it was the mother on the farm I loved.” In 1879, he went to Detroit to work as an apprentice machinist. He went to what is now the Detroit Business Institute. In 1888, Henry married Clara Jane Bryant, and they had only one child, Edsel Ford. In 1891, he worked at the Edison Illuminating Company. Five years later, he met Thomas Edison, and that was the beginning of Ford’s career.

In 1896, Henry showed Edison his automobile. Edison liked it and encouraged him to make another one. After a while, Henry founded the Detroit Automobile company in 1899. Unfortunately, the cars were not at the ideal price that Henry wanted, and the cars were low quality. In the end, the company closed in 1901. Later in the year, with the help of C. Harold Willis, Henry successfully made and raced a fast car. Then, Henry, Harold, and others founded the Henry Ford Company. One year later, Henry abandoned the company. Later in the year, Henry made a fast car with Tom Cooper. Then, Alexander Y. Malcomson and Henry founded “Ford & Malcomson, Ltd,” to make automobiles. Unfortunately, there were many troubles during this time. However, after solving some issues, the company was reincorporated as the Ford Motor Company in 1903, and this is when Ford’s success began.

In 1908, the Model T was introduced, being the first car that lots of Americans could afford. It was very popular. But of course, after a while, the Model T wasn’t as popular. It eventually stopped being produced. Then, the Model A was introduced in 1927. During this time, Henry’s son, Edsel Ford, was president of the Ford Motor Company. The Model A was a success. Unfortunately, in 1943, Edsel passed away. Following this, Henry became president of the Ford Motor Company, but people didn’t think it would be a good idea because he had a series of strokes in the 1930s and his mental ability was collapsing. In 1945, Henry retired, and Edsel’s son, Henry Ford II, became president of the Ford Motor Company. In 1947, Henry Ford died.

Because of Ford, lots of people were able to afford cars back in the day. He even paid his workers quite well. Today, the Ford Motor Company still exists and is doing well. Lots of people own cars now.

So, if you want to be a car manufacturer, then take a look at what Ford did and you too, might be successful.
