A Sound in My Life
What a sound!
Crash and a Pop,
Starting right from the top.
The melody rings loud
As the trumpets play
It sounds so great,
What an amazing fate
Measure 32 is approaching very quick
The trumpets die down
To give the clarinets a kick.
The triangle rings while the flute sings
The timpanist introduces a roll
46 is one measure away
The suspended cymbal is starting to sway
Full blast the band plays the melody
It invokes a feeling of great glee
Now it’s the trombone’s time to shine
They lead the pick-up into 79
They play an arpeggio followed by an outstanding chord
Ending quietly as if it faded into a floorboard.
The quite hum of the four not pattern
The clarinets play with great skill.
Suddenly the Tubas break the brick wall
A low call
The sound is returning very slowly,
The tubas are still singing.
The Euphoniums blow an interesting tune
Which the Saxophones start to follow.
The Trumpets are back in a flash
As the start to crash.
All the instruments are alive
Stronger than ever before
This is what I live for!
This glorious noise.
Just a bunch of different sounds
But, oh, how much more it is than that.
An art, a skill, a wonderful craft.
This is what makes my life complete,
This is what I love to hear,
This is the pulse in my veins.
It’s over
No applause
We’re just rehearsing,
And that is what I like the most.
