Your first wiki assignment:

Exploring the US and our National Parks

FYI (For Your Information):

  1. General Wiki Information
  2. To insert a photo on your page:
  • First, you need a photo.  If you're getting one from the web, you'll need to put the cursor arrow on the photo and do a right click with the mouse.  Go to "Save Image As" and save the photo to the desktop.  Either re-name the photo something you'll recognize or just remember its name.
  • Then, (in edit mode on your page) look over on the right side of the page where it says "images and files" and click on that.
  • Click on "Upload files."  Find your photo on the desktop and double click on it (or choose "select").
  • Your file should be the first one in the list now.  Then, put the cursor arrow where you want the photo to go.  Click on the photo file in the list and it should appear on your page.  You can resize it by using the arrows in the corner of the photo.
  • Click on Save.

      1. New York was the 11th state in the U.S.A

 2. The state capital is Albany

 3. New York City is it’s largest city and attracts many, many tourists.

 4. New York's Yellow Cabs are yellow because John Hertz, the company's founder, learned from a study that yellow was the easiest color for the eye to spot. He was right.

 5. Approximately 790,000 companies operate in New York City.

New York is a fantastic place to visit because of its many features such as restaurants, attractions, hotels, and so much more. New York was the 11th state established in the U.S.A. Even though New York City is the largest and most populated city in the state, Albany is the capital. New York City is known as the city that never sleeps probably because of all of the 790,000 companies that operate there. Transportation is also a big part of the city because of all of the yellow cabs and subways! The cabs are yellow because John Hertz, the company’s founder, learned from a study that yellow was the easiest color for the eye to spot. New York City is a great place to go!

Second Assignment: Walk Two Moons Essay

Don’t Judge a Man until you’ve Walked Two

 Moons in his moccasins.

 By: Claire

10.19.09

Everything is not what it seems at first with Sal Hiddle, the main character in Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. She is a girl who is interesting, quiet, and very imaginable. Sal misunderstands a few people along her journey to Lewiston, Idaho, but finally comes to accept them because of her trip and her stories.

Mrs. Margaret Cadaver is almost like Sal’s enemy at the start of the story. She is a woman that Sal’s dad knows and gets along with just fine but Sal doesn’t want anything to do with her wild red hair, voice like dead leaves, and frightening last name. After Sal’s long trip she figures out that Mrs. Cadaver knows a lot about her mother and survived the bus crash that Sal’s mother died in. Sal says “my mother told Mrs. Cadaver all about me and my father and our farm in Bybanks”. After Sal learns this, she becomes ok with having Mrs. Cadaver around.

Another person that Sal doesn’t quite get is Mr. Winterbottom. Sal thinks that her friend, Phoebe Winterbottom, has a strict, non-social, un-loving father who doesn’t care for anything. But when his wife, Mrs. Winterbottom, comes home from a long absence with a man who is unrecognizable, she explains that this man named Mike is her son. When Mr. Winterbottom accepts this supposed son Mike lovingly into the family, Sal sees a side of him that she’s never seen before. A loving and caring side that Sal never knew he had.

Sal has learned many lessons throughout her incredulous road trip to Idaho, and one of them has been very helpful and important. She learns not to judge people by the outside or what they seem to be. She learns to dig deeper and really see someone for who they are. As the story says, “Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins”.
