A Journey Through Time With David Beckham

 

Out of all of the sports in the world soccer or futbul is the most popular. In the soccer world David Beckham is one of the most popular players undoubtedly. He is a very talented player and also a celebrity for his modeling and fashion.

 

Child Hood

David Robert Joseph Beckham was born on May 2nd 1975 at Whipps Cross University Hospital in the beautiful town of Leytonstone, London, England.  He had two sisters Joanne and Lynne. His parent’s names are David Edward Alan Beckham and Sandra Georgina West.

 

Soccer As a Child

Soccer was always a part of David’s life. His Family were very big Manchester United Fans and traveled around to see them play. Then when he started to attend elementary school, Chase Lane Primary he played for them and the local teams of Chingford. David played for a local youth team called the Ridgeway Rovers, coached by Ted, David’s father. During that time of three years David scored one hundred goals. When he was older he played soccer for Chingford High’s team. Later he attended Bobby Charlton’s training sessions in Manchester. And won the chance to take part in a training session at FC Barcelona as part as a talent competition.

 

 

Personal Life

        In 1997 Beckham started dating Victoria Adams, famously known as “Posh Spice”, of the pop music group the Spice Girls. This was one of the medias favorite couples they named them “Posh and Becks”. He proposed to Victoria on January 24th 1998 in a restaurant in Cheshunt, England. They got married at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland on July 4th 1999. Then Victoria changed her name to Victoria Beckham. Two of the people in the wedding were David’s son, Brooklyn, the ring bearer and Gary Neville, best man.     In 1999 the Beckhams bought their famous home called the Beckingham Palace in Hertfordshire, north of London. In April 2007 when David went to play for LA Galaxy they bought their new Italian villa in Beverly Hills, California. The Beckhams now have three sons: Brooklyn Joseph Beckham born March 4th 1999, Romeo James Beckham born September 1st 2002, Cruz David Beckham born February 20th 2005. Brooklyn and Romeo’s godfather is Elton John and godmother is Elizabeth Hurley.

 

Career

David Beckham has played for many teams and clubs they are, 1991-1993 Brimsdown Rivers, 1993-2003 Manchester United, 1995-2003 Preston North End (loan), 2003-2007 Real Madrid, 2007- Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS), 2009 –AC Milan (loan).               

 

 

 

Soccer Career

Manchester United was the second team David played for and started out as a trainee and as a part of a young players group at the club who then won the FA Youth. David signed his first contract with Man U in 1992 at the age of seventeen.

At he beginning of the 1996-97 season for Man U David Beckham was given the number 10 jersey that had most recently been worn by Mark Hughes. On August 17th 1996 Beckham became something of a household name when he scored a spectacular goal in a match against Wimbeldon. It was when he scored from fifty. He was accidentally given Charlie Miller’s shoes with “Miller” embroidered on the cleats these were the shoes that were worn when he shot his famous goal. Even though David accomplished many things in the 1998-1999 season the media and the fans still didn’t like him and the media wrote articles against David.

When David had his son Brooklyn the relationship between his manager Sir Alex Fereguson began to get very weak. He was given permission to take a small amount of time off so that he could stay home with his son who had gastroenteritis. When Victoria was photographed at a London Fashion Week event Ferguson was furious because if Victoria didn’t go David could have played. He decided to cut 50,000 pounds out of David’s pay check and bench him for a few games.

In 2002 Beckham broke his second metatarsal bone in his left foot there was speculation that it was intentional because the player was from Argentina and They were suppose to play England in the upcoming World Cup.

For Man U, Beckham made 256 Premier league appearances, scored 61 goals and made 81 championship league appearances, scoring 15 goals. He won 6 Premier titles, 2 FA Cup’s, one European Cup, one European Cup one Intercontinental Cup and one FA Youth Cup in the time of 12 years.

On Real Madrid, Beckham was number 23. David received many yellow cards, bookings and suspensions, even some injuries. On January 13th 2007 Beckham played in his last match for Real Madrid.

On January 11th 2007 it was confirmed that Beckham had signed a 5 year 50 million dollar contract with Los Angeles Galaxy. His contract took affect on July 11th.  He is now on loan and playing for AC Milan.

Charity Work

Beckham has supported many organizations including UNICEF since playing for Man U. January 2005 he became the Ambassador of the Goodwill with hopes to develop their sports for development program. He also was named "Britain's Greatest Ambassador".  David is a spokes person for Malaria No More a non-profit created in 2006.

He also has a soccer academy called the David Beckham Academy, which has two locations, one in London and one in Los Angeles. It is for young athletes to develop skill and learn about healthy living. It is for kids 8-15 and has a fun healthy learning atmosphere.

Achievements

On the Forbes list of The Celebrity 100 David Beckham was named the 15th in 2007.

 

 

Manchester United

While playing for man U David Beckham accomplished many things. He won the Premier League 1995–96, 1996–97, 1998–99, 1999–00, 2000–01, 2002–03. The FA Cup in 1999, the UEFA Champions League in the 1998-1999 season. The Intercontinental Cup in 1999. The Community Shield in 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, and the FA Youth Cup in 1992.

Real Madrid                                                                                                                   While playing for Real Madrid he won La Liga in 2006–07 Supercopa de España in 2003.

Personal Achievements

David Beckham has also earned many individual honors and achievements. In 1996 and1997 he won the PFA Young Player of the year and the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year 1996/97 also. HE also won the UEFA Club Player of the Year in 1999. He was inducted in the English Football Hall of Fame in 2008. David Beckham has won two ESPY awards one in 2004 for the Best Male Soccer Player and he also won the Best Male Player in 2008.

Tattoos

David Beckham has many tattoos and they all symbolize something that is important to him. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and says that he is addicted to the pain of the needle. He has all of his kid’s names on his back. He has a portrait of Victoria on his arm and many about guardian angels.

David Beckham is an important person and a role model that people can look up to have determination and be successful in soccer and raising awareness for things like malaria. He is also one of the most popular soccer players in the world.
