Watson’s Go To Birmingham—1963
In the book Watson’s Go To Birmingham—1963 by: Christopher Paul Curtis, our narrarator’s brother, Byron or “By”, changes quite a bit from the beginning to the end of the book. When he starts out he is a bit of a jerk, but as he progresses he becomes a caring, helpful older brother figure that Kenny or Kenneth our narrarator, needs.
In the beginning of the book we learn that By, and his friend “Buphead” play mean jokes on Kenny, like when they’re out in the snow and offer to teach Kenny how to survive a blizzard. You begin to get the feel he cares more about his amusement or himself in general when he decides to create a “film” using toilet paper, matches, and a toilet.
He is truly a Jerk so his Momma and Dad chose to take him down to Birmingham. Little did he know they know they were throwing him somewhere he would see something that would scar him for life. He comes back a mature person (who doesn’t want to stay with his grandma all summer). Although it was Kenny who was truly frightened, By helped the kid that just a few months before he was torturing, through and supported him when he was feeling down.
Most of all he opened Kenny’s eyes to the world. This character truly went through a transformation from jerk to a loving brother. Watson’s Go to Birmingham—1963 truly changes Byron Watson.

b: I liked learning about wiki’s but I wish we had done a little more with it at the end of the year.
