Shift

By:Em Bailey

Book review by: Jelimo kaitany

For my book of choice project I chose the book Shift by Em Bailey. This book is about a girl named Olive. Olive goes to a private school on the east coast and recently recovered from what she refers to as "the incident". She believes the incident is what caused her father to leave. When Olive returns to school she meets a girl named Ami who has all the same problems as her and looks very similar to her. Olive and Ami quickly become friends. When a new girl, Miranda, starts going to their school she is immediately deemed a nerd. But Olive and Ami start to notice that Miranda is following Katie(the most popular girl in school who has a long tangled history with Olive) and the other popular girls around. She begins copying them and acting exactly like them. And before they know it she has become Katie's number two. One day after a swim meet, Olive and Ami go down to the computer lab and search the strange things that have been going on. What they find is horrifying. Miranda has now begun to slowly drain all of Katie's, well, everything. Will Olive be able to save Katie before it's too late? Or more importantly, herself?

I liked the characters in this book and how the author described Olive's feelings so vividly. I did not however like the ending of this book because it was way to much of a cliff hanger. I think overall I would recommend this book because I found it easy to connect with and very sweet and charming.
