Reflection & Portfolio

We’ve had a lot of writing assignments this year.  I really enjoyed writing every one of them, but let me break it down for you.

For the Science Fiction story, I liked how we could write story about whatever we wanted to happen in the future, but it was hard for me to come up with a topic.  I also thought the Science Fiction story was my least favorite.  I don’t think we had a lot of time in class to write so I wrote most of mine at home.  I really didn’t feel like I got a lot of feedback on this story.

I really liked writing the Book of Choice Review because I got to read any book I wanted.  I think it was a lot of fun.  I think I had plenty of time to write the review, but I didn’t get any feedback and I wish I did.  Also, I wish someone would read the same book as me because then we could compare what we both got out of it!

The Myth was a lot more fun to write then I thought it would be.  I like the topic I wrote about (How stars are created and where people go when they die) because it interest me.  I felt I got plenty of time to be creative and I got a lot of feedback.  I liked this assignment because I got a lot of feedback and it was really fun to write.

The Giver response I liked it because I got go see what different people thought about the end of the book.  I also liked it because I got plenty of feedback and work time.  What I didn’t like about this assignment is I didn’t really get the book or the ending.  I didn’t like that we had to write about it and I didn’t get it that much.  I just think it was a really challenging assignment for me to write this year.

The O Henry Story was fun to write.  I liked comparing two stories we read.  I don’t think I got a lot of time to write or feedback on this story.   I just didn’t really enjoy the story.

I really liked the Research Paper assignment.  I liked how you took us through it in steps and not just giving it to us and say it is due in a week.  The writing process you used I would recommend for next year because it really helped me and it was not a waste of time.  I had plenty of time to work on it and I had a lot of feedback that was really helpful to help me write the rest of my research paper!  I really liked everything about this assignment and it was my favorite out of all that we did in the second half of the semester.

The Wiki was really fun to use.  It was easy and simply and I would recommend it for next year!

I like Google Docs and it was nice to keep all my writing in one place.  I didn’t like how you didn’t have to press save and it didn’t always do what I wanted it to do.  I wouldn’t use Google doc next year, but would use something similar to it because I really liked keeping all my writing someplace easy to get to.

I wish we had more assignments to work with others.  I did enjoy working with the people that I did.  One idea for next year, is to have your class write a story with a partner.

I really enjoyed the Writing Process.  I liked how you gave us all of the due dates at once, but gave us a few weeks till we had to turn in our final draft.  I am happy you didn’t give us the assignment and say that it was due next week because then we would learn nothing.   I liked the way you taught us how to right our ideas down on paper.

Also, I loved the Voki!  It was a lot of fun to create little people and make them say stuff.  Some people have 10 on their Wiki.  I like them because they are so funny some times.  When you are in a bad mood, just listen to your Voki.  I would recommend using it again next year!

I have learned so many different things this year!

  • ·         I learned how to be a better friend, how to be cool around your crush, new ways of writing, new topics to write about, new math methods, and so many more things.

  • ·         I learned about new ways to read and write and there are a lot of ideas I can write about.  I learned new strategies to break down words.  Zahra and I worked with Mrs. Hulteen during REACH and both learned new ways to help us read better.

  • ·         I learned how to use bibme.org and write down all of my sources where I get my information to help me with my writing assignments.  I was not the best at it last year, but this year got alot better at it.

  • ·         I also learned how to treat people at MacDonald Middle School with the 3 R’s (Respect, Responsibility, and Relationships).  At the beginning of the year, I had a lot of friendship problem, but I learned how to solve them on my own and now I don’t have as many friendship problems as I did the first week of school.

I had a hard time in Social Studies this year.  It was hard because it was my least favorite class and was not interesting to me!  I didn’t learn as well because all Mr. Watson did was give us worksheets and told us to have it done by the next day.  The next day when we went over the worksheet, I had my hand raised because I didn’t get it and he never called on me.  I feel like teachers don’t call on me because I have a question and they don’t feel like they will get through the lesson so they don’t call on me.  I feel this way about ever class, not just Mr. Watsons.
