20 seconds
poem by Hamza Yusuf
Your 20 seconds are over.
Now, you have to face the facts.
Your 20 seconds of fame are over.
You had a F in home economics,
a D- in science, and a D, well,
you have a gpa of about
1.02.
No hope for even community college.
you spent all of that money,
the time, the energy,
on all of those workshops,
auditions, trips,
Just to get disappointed.
To have your dreams crushed.
You thought you were the next big thing,
the next big actor, musician,
artist.
I knew you were far more worse than a screaming cat on the freeway,
but I said you sang like an angel.
I even bribed the director of the musical,
so you could get the part.
Who am I, as your friend, to lie to you.
I’m not your friend,
I’m your telemarketer,
the person who tells you want to hear.
Rights.
a paper by Hamza Yusuf
Intro
Before I started this paper, I’ve heard a lot of stories about people who are social minorities being discriminated of because of the simple fact that they’re different than the majority. I personally think that this is a problem that with perseverance, we can eliminate it. In this document, i’m going to share some information I got from various sources including but not limited to Wikipedia, the Trevor project, BBC..co.uk . . .
So, what does it mean for someone to be on the LGBTQ spectrum?
LGBT is an acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. That basically means anyone who does not apply to general social norms (the standard hetrosexual norm, to be your biological gender, dress like your biological gender, etc).
why are people in the LGBT community demonized or discriminated against?
The reasons why many people are against breaking the social norm is sometimes due to the fact of religious beliefs, the fact that no offspring can be a result, the fear that they are child molesters, rapists, incestous couples, Exhibitionists, and the list goes on. A another reason why many people discriminate against gays(a general term) is because many see it as
unnatural. The keyword was “many”, a synonym would be “Majority”. The reason why hetrosexuality is so normal is because a huge percentage of the population are actually hetrosexuals and not homosexuals.
so then, why does all of this matter?
this may not be relevant to some people individually, but for many millions of people, this gay rights movement is really important for them in everyday life.
The sense of belonging is really important for the mental health of people in a very social world where human interaction is very important.
So, why are people gay?
Many psychologists, doctors, and sexologists have been theorizing about the whole “nature over nurture” debate, but new studies have shown that sexuality is cause by “epimarks”, or extra extra layers of information that control how certain genes are expressed. These genes are usually erased between generations, but are left behind sometimes. A female homosexual will almost always get her traits from the father, and a male homosexual will get his traits from the mother. Scientist say that this a big milestone in gay rights because the main thought has been that any other sexuality besides heterosexuality is chosen by the individual, and is therefore not natural. Scientists have also observed this sexual trait in many kinds of animals that are but aren't limited to, penguins, ducks, insects, birds, humans(obviously), fish, reptiles, amphibians, and a lot more.
So, what laws are being passed worldwide that are protecting or discriminating gays
(As a general term)
there are very limited laws that are being passed that are protecting gays, but much more that are discriminating gays. In Russia, public displays of affection is illegal if with a same sex companion, but is legal with hetrosexual couples. Uganda how ever, bans anything other than hetrosexuality and will punish people who have intercourse with that of the same sex with life imprisonment or the still pending option of the death penalty.
Canada is the other way around.
Not only is gay marriage legal, but all discrimination and hatred towards them is illegal, and can be punishable by a few days in prison, or a fine of a certain amount
America has a few number of states that does not prohibit gay marriage. This equal privilege has not been written in America's constitution, but is in the states constitution. The rest of the states simply ban same sex marriage. The only state that is in the negative is Arizona, and their bill for the freedom of religion, which let's business discriminate against gay couples. But this has not been the first time that Arizona has discriminated against minorities. In the 1990s, Arizona failed to accept Martin Luther King day as a national holiday.
the UK government has proposed a bill for gay marriage to be effective as of march of 2014 in England and Wales.
In conclusion, many of the question I have answered have some very interesting points that many people don't regularly think about when you come to terms on LGBT rights. Due to recent advancement on the practice on sexology, the understanding on human psychology, and young people throwing out the concept of religion entirely, many people have sympathy and support LGBT people. Those who were part of the baby boomer demographic were more likely to be homophobic or racist. It's amazing just to see how much in equal rights we have come as a world wide population.

Compare and contrast essay
on Young Bond and Alex rider series.
By Hamza Yusuf
The stories that I’m going to be talking about today are the well known Alex Rider series, and the lesser known Young Bond series.
Let’s start:
Young Bond series
The Young Bond Series is a collection of 5 novels that are based on Ian Fleming's, “James Bond”. Essentially, the remake by Charlie Higson Is based on Bond’s teenage life at Eton College in the 1930s.
The book is a Young adult does contain some content that may not be suitable for some readers.
Alex Rider series
The Alex Rider series, first edition being written in 2000, is a novel written by British writer Anthony Horowitz, about a British teenager, Alex Rider, who after his uncle’s death is recruited by secret services to finish his uncles work, and to also carry out other missions that his uncle would probably have done instead of him.
The rest of the books are sort of interconnecting, to reveal a huge map of the whole series plot, sort of like it’s supposed to be one big book, but cut into sections to make it a little easier to read.
The comparisons
These two novel series have a lot of stuff in common. One of this is the nationality of the two main characters, which is British. Another thing the two books have in common Are the release dates. There are a couple years of lag between the books release dates, but are close enough. And one last is the similar between the books Is the age of the characters. They are both teenagers in the books.
The contrasts
Even though the two book series are Strikingly similar in comparison, they do go very different ways. One difference are time periods. the Alex Rider series takes place in the early 21st century, while Young bond takes place in the mid 20th century. Another difference are the occupations that the characters take. The young james bond was sort of a makeshift spy(mischievous pickpocketer), while Alex rider was the,”traditional” spy. The last thing that was different was the location, or home base. The home base for The entire Alex Rider series was Chelsea, England, while for the Young Bond series it was West England.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading both series. I, however favored the Alex Rider series for it’s originality and style. Both are interesting to read, and you will gain a lot of useful knowledge from both books. Enjoy!
The Giver, chapter 24
By Hamza Yusuf
(paragraph from book)“Downward, downward, faster and faster. Suddenly, he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting, too, for the baby. For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people singing. Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an ech-” "ringringringring".
Jonas was dreaming. Jonas was quite frightened by his very, vivid dream. He got out of bed, and checked his ipod. May 25, 2007, 7:15 AM. He then checked his book case. World of literature, McDougal Littel. Alex Rider: stormbreaker, by Anthony Horowitz. The then proceeded to get up from bed, and go to his closet. A pair of skinny jeans, track pants, a red sweater, plaid shirt, a tie, and shorts. The exact opposite world that he had just lived in for 8 hours,he was dreaming. Gabriel was still not born yet, due in august, and lily was still in middle school. "Jonas! Time for breakfast! I made you some pancakes!", said his mom.
"Jonas, I may come home at around 11 pm, so I may have to miss your soccer tournament." "Where are you going now, dad?" "Oslo,(sigh)for a conference regarding world trade of commercial grade concrete." Another key difference, his father, in the dream, was a caretaker for the newborn. Now the CEO of NorThren Tucker construction, the largest architect and construction company in more than 103 countries. His mom, now an interior designer, in his dream, was working in the department of justice. His mom hated law school.
3rd hour came along, which meant social studies. His teacher, Mr. North, Was talking about communism,”Wait, so in a communist society, everyone works for the government?” “Yep.” said Mr. North. “But what about people like plumbers?” “Those kinds of services were also ran by the government too.” “Mr. North, Why was communism Such a good idea on paper, but a bad idea practically?” “Jonas, it;s because we are picky, we want to be free from control. Don’t you hate it when we tell you to walk instead of run to keep you safe? To answer your question, we are beings with free will, and to distrupt that flow of fee will, will be the end of our mental capacity.”
Climate change essay
By Hamza Yusuf
Climate change is an issue that has been debated since the late 80’s. the idea that climate change exist or not has been proven, true. now the new decision is whether we should do something about it, or let it be. Or to put in other words, is it naturally occurring, or did we cause it? Scientist say that we have some impact on our environment, enough to throw off some ecosystems and seasons. The climate change is also responsible for rise in sea level, flooding, much more severe natural disasters, decrease in water level, decrease in animal population, more rain, droughts, and the list goes on.
The Midwest
Climate change has had a very damaging effect in the midwest.
One effect in the Midwest are longer growing seasons, more tornadoes, and as a result, there is a higher cost in fresh produce and crops.
Arctic Ocean
The arctic ocean is one of the most common areas concerning global warming, mainly because of the dramatic change in temperature. It’s much warmer in the arctic, which has caused the polar ice caps, and glaciers to melt, then causing a rise in sea level.
Caribbean
the caribbean ocean has some effects of global warming that may, actually be beneficial to the tourism, like a rise in water level, and warmer weather. But, that all comes with a price to pay, like more severe tropical storms, and decrease in animal population.
South Western Africa
This region has experienced a lot of devastating effects from climate change, such as wildfires, desertification, water level decrease, Disruption in food chain, and Contaminated drinking water.
These are only a few of the places that has experienced a dramatic change in climate change, as there are several hundreds more. Based in the information presented, I think that it is safe to say that we are contributing to this mess and should do everything in our power to solve it.
