"On a Thursday afternoon, just after tea, charlie bone saw smoke." - midnight for charlie bone, first sentence

Today i`m reviewing Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo. The story takes place in the U.K, present time. In the beginning of the story, Charlie buys a picture of his friend Benjamin`s dog to make him a birthday card. But the order gets messed up,and Charlie gets a different photo. Normally, this would have been perfectly fine, but he can see and hear what happened when the picture was taken! Charlie tries to keep this a secret, but his aunts figure it out. Charlie`s family has a bloodline of people with extraordinary powers, called endowment. Charlie`s father had a gift as well, but is missing and nowhere to be found. They order that he is to be enrolled in Bloor`s academy for gifted children. Charlie refuses, but his mother and grandmother explain that his aunts pay for the house. If Charlie does not go, then they will stop paying for it. So, he reluctantly agrees. The day before Charlie has to leave, he enters a bookshop to buy Benjamin a birthday present. There, he meets Mrs ingledew. She explains that the picture is hers and that her husband, Doctor Tolly, traded the child in the photo for a mysterious case. She also explains that her niece is still alive somewhere, at Bloor`s academy, but she won`t know who she is. Charlie promises to look for her. Will charlie find her? read the book to find out.
