Mel's Review Fahrenheit 451

Page history last edited by imelda 10 years, 6 months ago

It was a pleasure to burn. The first sentence of the amazing novel Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 was a great book written by Ray Bradbury. The book is about a fireman named Montag who lives in a future where instead of firemen putting out house fires they start them. A fireman's job is to burn books and houses that contain books.

Montag is a happy man, or so he thinks. One day when walking home from work Montag meets an odd young girl named Clarisse McClellan who tells him about the past when they used to read books instead of burning them. When their conversation comes to an end Clarisse asks Montag a question that leaves him flabbergasted. Clarisse asks " are you happy?" Montag is very surprised that she would even ask such a question. Montag later in the book shows his wife (Mildred) a secret stash of books that he had been hiding.  Everything seems to go slowly down hill from there. Montag's boss (the Captain) finds out Montag has been reading, Montag's wife Mildred leaves him, and Montag becomes a wanted man.

The story takes place in an unspecific town in the future. Some places Montag is in the story are (Faber's house-a friends house, his house, his neighborhood, and the firehouse.) The rising action is when Montag starts reading books and comes up with a plan to open the world up to learning and reading.

I would recommend this book to another seventh grader, because it is fun to read once you get into it. It is also a very exciting book that is filled with emotion and action. At first I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish it , but once I really started to understand what I was reading this book was a pleasure to read.
