A Review of: Huckleberry finn

by Daniel Winnie

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer following Tom's friend, Huck on his adventure down the Mississippi river alongside his Slave companion, Jim.

The book starts out with some exposition on Huck's life: Huck goes fishing and decides to join a gang of boys led by Tom to take over the world (Nah, I'm kidding [mostly]) while waiting for his dad to get out of jail because he got drunk and started a riot. His dad comes back, gets drunk, creates a riot, goes back to jail, you know, the usual stuff in a Kid's life.

At one point, Huck obtains a canoe and talks to a slave named Jim who will soon be traded away. Huck, deciding that he's had enough of his dad, decides to go down the Mississippi river with Jim on his canoe. From there they have a lot of adventures including, but not limited to, getting into the crossfire of a several generation feud, helping a couple of men on the run reenact Romeo and Juliet, and almost having the canoe destroyed by an idiotic boater!

Huckleberry Finn is a great book, but I would label it as a hard read. It's almost entirely written in 1800's engrish. Also, the reason why this book was banned was because of the common use of the 'N' word, so if you find that offensive, there are several revisions that change every instance of the 'N' word to slave, negro, there's even a joke version that changes each instance to Robot (I am not kidding)!

However, if you can get past these problems, you will be treated to a classic and moral packed story Good for all ages, full to the brim with amazing writing like all the subtle messages. For example, the idiocy behind a feud (you fought today because you fought yesterday). As well as intriguing characters such as Huck and his dad. Huckleberry Finn, now (and most likely for a while now) available at a library near you!
