A Long Way from Chicago

              Richard Peck

                        Report by: Jaden Y

Grandma was a lying, steeling, cheating, and back sassing woman.  No matter who you are or what you’re like Grandma Dowell will always disrespect you in some way.

The characters in this story are:

Joseph Dowell- a young boy, who is the grandson of Ms. Dowell, is brother to Mary Alice, his younger sister. Nickname: joey.

Mary Alice- a little sister to joey and is the granddaughter of Ms. Dowell.   She loves animals and likes to make people happy and have fun.

Grandma Dowell- an old woman who lies, steals, and cheats to win everything. She just makes this book more fun to read.

                Setting of the book:

Out in the country where grandma Dowell lives, Chicago, and the county fair.

                The plot of the book:

The kids Joey and Mary Alice visit their grandma Dowell every summer. She lives in the country where everyone knows everyone’s business.  Every ones afraid of their grandma,  because she always has a spare shot gun in her house.  She goes on crazy little adventures with her grand kids and teaches them odd things to do in life that their parents don't teach them.  She doesn't get along with the sheriff and that is not a really good thing. she stole his boat and always yells in his face. Surprisingly she doesn't get arrested.

If you want to learn more about this crazy woman who does crazy things with her grand kids read this book.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves humor books.  This story is easier so i would reccomend this book mainly for 6th graders.
